Am I the only one who feels like this is just an updated Time Cruisers theme that they created a movie around? Just like Time Cruisers, and to some extent Clutch Powers, these themes seem to scream out "we have too many pieces from too many themes and we need to liquidate them!!!". So voila, they create some random sets, tie a movie script to it, and pray that everything sells (which I'm sure it will). Ok, rant done. :)

Now on another note, I am SUPER EXCITED to actually go see this movie. Call me a hypocrite but I'm loving the actual movie promos.

This is mostly nonsense, not worth dropping big money on, but a few gems in there for castle and pirate enthusiasts and some unique pieces too.

Interesting. I think the sets look like a lot of fun. The color schemes are bright and playful, there's heavy swoosh factor in many of the sets, and they solicit a strong feeling of childish awe and wonder. I find them to be a decent barometer for the movie, and I will definitely be supporting them.

Mostly nonsense sets; not a bad thing for kids though. While they do seem fun, it is such a scattered mess that most of the sets will be difficult to incorporate into stuff I have built. The new guns and robot minifigures look pretty cool, I see them getting incorporated into space stuff I am doing. These sets make sense considering the movie, but I see us adults parting these things out for any of the new pieces.

well, between METALBEARD'S DUEL and the currently covered 70813 set, there looks some definite potential to finally get round to updating my Hulk Buster Iron Man armour to Mark 3...

... that is assuming lego don't bring out an armour themselves! :)

I dunno. I think these sets have more thought and engineering behind them than the previous parts dump themes. It seems that most of if not all of the vehicle based sets have an alternate mode. That castle set? that can't be the only model you can build out of it. and take a look at the garbage truck and ice cream truck. you can't tell me that those are just sets thrown together with leftover/excess parts. I'm not holding my breath but it remains to be seen if the sets actually transform or if they are of the build-take-apart-rebuild variety.

My first thought when I saw these sets was "Time Cruisers done right". To me the TC theme was hastily marketed junk, and had zero interest back when it came out. But these? They look like solid fun and clever designs.

I have a major soft spot for the Time Cruisers theme, but I think Solo's on the money with this one. Sets look fantastic and if the movie itself is a 10th of what these promise to be I'm gonna be a happy camper. The sheer weirdness on display is everything I could hope from a LEGO movie and more.

I agree that they do look like crazy alternate models. Could be fun.

Vitruvius' staff annoys me a lot in the movie trailers. It doesn't even look like a LEGO element. His official LEGO counterpart, however, has a much better staff accessory, but I still think a brown pole like Gandalf's would look much, much better.

El Macho? Since when does Lego have a Despicable Me 2 license? :D

That's because it's not supposed to be a Lego element, it's supposed to be a chewed-on lollipop. Much like the battery and tube of glue in the set, his staff is a Lego representation of a non-Lego object in the movie.

You know, I get that and all, but it seems weird to me. Like toys based on a movie about actual toys isn't meta enough. I think it would be less weird to include special elements that look like the non-lego objects, but that would drive set prices up.

The LEGO Movie Sets Revealed

Postby Staff » Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:03 pm

70800 Getaway Glider 1

LEGO has revealed all of The LEGO Movie sets on their Google+ page as well as the microsite. Now that we can see the full gamut of sets, these look to be some of the most fun and creative sets made. Some people have compared them to the parts-dump themes like Time Twisters, but these don't strike me as being a parts-dump. I don't have much of an opinion of the flying castle, but the ice cream truck and recycling truck look fantastic. These images also more or less confirm what I suspected all along in that there are alternate model builds for some of the sets.

I've included all previous images published before into the gallery below so that you can see everything at once. Enjoy!

These sets look amazing!

Personally, I was around when Time Cruizers were released, and these don't look anything like that parts-dump theme.

I will admit that I probably won't get the Cloud Cuckoo Palace set, but apart from that one, the others will surely be on my "to get" list.

What's sad is that I wasn't really interested in any of these other than the candy one until I saw the alternate builds. Now I want almost all of them.

Well played, Lego... well played

While the sets definitely have a Time Cruisers vibe to them, they don't look like the parts dump that that theme turned out to be. There are too many new parts and in new colors, (Cloud Cuckoo Palace, for example), and the parts all seem to fit together more thematically than in TC--the quasi-Western steampunk glider, for example; all of the pieces in that set look like they could be part of a saloon, even down to the dartboard, whereas in TC there was an obvious glut of pirate ships, castle walls, BURPs, and Aquazone/Divers parts just thrown together. Only Bad Cop Pursuit looks like it could have come from an overabundance of City Police set leftovers.

I will definitely try to pick up multiples of several of these sets, particularly the glider and Metalbeard's Duel. And I'll have to pick up at least one Cloud Cuckoo Palace. Heck, I'll have to pick up at least one of all of them. Hopefully the movie is really good (i.e. wife likes it), so that she's more willing to let me spend money ;)

I'm hoping similarly, though in my case I'm hoping that it is good enough that the KIDS really like it, so can justify buying more than a set or two, since I'll be getting them "for the kids!" ;)

One thing I kind of wished is that the western figures weren't robots. I would have like to to put them with my western collection, but as robots they really don't fit.
