21103 The DeLorean Time Machine Now Available

Postby Staff » Thu Aug 01, 2013 1:29 am

21103

The hotly anticipated 21103 The DeLorean Time Machine is now available through Amazon and LEGO Shop@Home. There is a quantity limit of 5 per customer when ordering from Amazon and 2 per customer from LEGO Shop@Home. I haven't seen it on any of the other major online retailers but will update this post if that changes. Price is $34.99 and all royalties normally paid to the designer will be donated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Not a big fan, but the wife loves the car and the mini-figures since she is a 80's movie buff. She is not into Lego at all, but she wants this set lol. So I am going to buy it for her.

I am surprised at how reasonably priced this set seems to be, at least from a price-per-part standpoint. 400 pieces for $35 for a CUSOO project based on a licensed property? I was expecting it to be at least $50. I may actually buy this, now.

I guess the Minecraft set was the same. So maybe my expectations are just off.

Looks like it's already sold out on Amazon and on 30-day backorder from S@H.

Guess I won't be getting it, then. Wonder why they chose to make so few?

Why is it sold out on a amazon and backordered on LegoShop already? Is it a limited production run?
Don't you waste away, for tomorrow will soon be today

It just seems like they could have guessed that the demand would be pretty strong. If it really has sold through the production run this quick, they'd be crazy not to make more, though. If it comes back, then I'll look at maybe getting one.

I ordered 2 just after midnight on 1st Aug and got the dispatch notice today! :) I'll build one and keep the other sealed.

Looking forward to getting it (and probably trying to mod it!).

Hi I ordered mine at 8 am Australian time Aug 1st, but had to pay out $100 AUD for it due to the $30 shipping fee?
If that's not a rip off then I don't know what is, shame Lego shame!

I wouldn't worry about missing this first run unless you absolutely have to have it now. After the next restock, it's anyone's guess if they'll make much more.

Disclaimer: I already bought mine to lock it in. May get another 1 or 2 later once demand slows down.

On a side note, being another 80's icon there are two Ghostbusters Cuusoo projects at top 6. Please vote so we can have that made as well!

Vote for the one you like or vote for both, but if you want a Ghostbusters set, please vote.
I voted for this one.

That looks awesome, though for selfish reasons, if they DO make a Ghostbusters set, I'd prefer it to be limited to the Ecto 1. No way I'd ever be able to afford a whole HQ set.

I'm with Ed, but more because I'm cheap and don't care about any of the modular buildings.

More because you're cheap? I thought that was pretty much the whole reason I was giving for my preference. Are you saying you are cheaper than I am? :D

I'm really encouraged by the fact that this in now on Target. I had a feeling this was going to be a whole lot more popular than Lego was going to anticipate.

Also someone once said that Ghostbusters was going to be rough as the "construction toy" license was with another company. I googled it wasn't able to find any proof of that. Does anyone else have any insights to this?

Thanks for the link BTW.. Target search engine failed to find this. When you go to the page though its not available. I wanted this set to succeed so much. Turns out it has succeeded so much that I can't get one.

Am I the first person who's noticed that they spelled 'shield' wrong on this set?? On the flux capacitor it says 'sheild' and you can even see it on the box in the picture if you look close enough. I guess someone's spell check is off OR they spell things differently in Denmark.

Now I'm praying they fix it and the first runs become collectible. XD

No, you're not the first, Lego noticed this, too and released an announcement about it. They say that they are going to fix it, which might be the reason that they produced so few. So they might end up being collectible like you said!
