LEGO Reveals 10235 Winter Village Market

Today at Brickfête, LEGO reveals their latest addition to their Winter Village pseudo-theme: 10235 Winter Village Market. This set seems more like a collection of smaller sets than previous entries. Instead of one large building as the focus, you get a series of small vignettes, the largest being a four-ride merry-go-round. Think Farmer's Market and you get the idea. You can check out more pics below with full resolution photos available in FBTB's flickr stream. The official press release is also included below as is the designer video. The set comes out in October of this year and will set you back $99.99 USD / $129.99 CAD for 1,261 pieces.

My best guess is that LEGO is marketing (pun intended) this set to their German/Austrian fans because of the Weihnachtsmarkt tradition? They have one in Cincinnati too, I guess. Cool set.

It's a cool set, but $99 isn't the price point I immediately think of when I see this set. It looks more like a $60 set to me. I'll snag it, but not happily.

While looking at the set doesn't evoke the price, looking at the piece count and owning the previous ones certainly seems to justify it. I just got into collecting the Winter Collection last year, and absolutely loved them. Planning on picking this up as soon as it comes out and getting my Mantle Christmas display set up early this year. Sadly, picked up most of the sets too late last year to really get it showing for Christmas.

I really wish these sets would show up in retail outside of LEGO for the chance to get them on sale or clearance. They're exceptional value for parts, outside of the theme, especially to a city or castle builder that wants food or civilians to toss around.
If the above post didn't offend you, you're probably reading it wrong.

I really enjoy these sets around the holidays. I rebuild them every year and while this one might not be a favorite, it will certainly find a home with me. Grab one shortly after the holidays because these sets like most will get a tad (sarcasm) inflated after the season is over. Example 10199 Holiday Toy Shop will set you back about $200 bucks second hand and will get higher as the season approaches.

I love this kinda-theme. I've got all the sets in past years and I love putting them together with my kids each year. It's turning into a fun little tradition. I like that this set has a bunch of things that can be added to the Village Square area. Main Street is nice, but it'll be nice to have some things that give my Village a more carnival feeling.
