Ninjago Movie in Early Stage

Though we don't cover them in detail on FBTB, we all still love our Castle, Pirates, and Space LEGO too.

Ninjago Movie in Early Stage

Comingsoon.net is reporting that a Ninjago movie is in the works based on 'positive reaction' to the Lego movie trailer. Now, my reaction to the Lego movie trailer was as positive as to any trailer since Pacific Rim but I think that is because the movie looks witty and fun (and has a classic space guy), not because I really want more Lego movies for the sake of Lego movies.

I guess time will tell.

Thanks to our friends at Brickset for pointing us towards the article.

Update: Hollywood Reporter has a few more details on the project. Brothers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, who have a credit in The LEGO Movie, will be writing the Ninjago movie. They were also the writers behind the Ninjago television series on Cartoon Network so the movie should be in good hands.

My question is "why?". There's already the Ninjago miniseries...

to make money obviously. also, ninjago is one of the best selling lines so it kinda makes sense.

i kinda see it like star trek, star trek: tng, and firefly. tv series first, then graduate to a feature film.

The thing that kind of gets me about this is what kind of audience they're expecting. The Lego Movie is just that. A Lego movie. There are people who haven't touched a brick in years and still want to go and see it. It's got a lot more broad appeal. It doesn't take itself seriously, and it looks like it's going to cater to many age groups. Fun toy + fun movie = fun time.

Ninjago is a specific Lego line that only came out two years ago, and had a TV show that was targeted toward kids. The whole Ninjago theme was pretty much intended to be a Saturday morning cartoon with tie-in toys. The AFOLs will likely not want to see it, and the casual viewers of The Lego Movie will likely be turned off by the over-the-top, serious approach. There's not really much they can do to make it appealing to anyone but the kids who watched the TV show. It's just too serious and corny at the same time.

But hey, there's no trailer and no reviews yet, so this is all just speculation. I might be way off here.

i agree with your sentiments. might just be a direct to dvd type of thing. i can't imagine a theatrical release and a-list stars to do the voices.

Yeah, that sounds more likely. I hadn't even considered that, but that makes more sense.
