75003 A-wing Starfighter Discounted 20%

Postby Staff » Sun Mar 17, 2013 12:56 pm

Target has put on sale their entire LEGO Star Wars catalog for this week. Savings range around 10%, nothing great but they do have 75003 A-wing Fighter on sale for 20% off at an even $20. Deal is good all week long until Saturday March 23. Got a REDCard? Save an additional 5% and get free shipping to boot.

In typical Amazon fashion, they've price-matched the set. If you live in a state where Amazon doesn't charge sales tax, this may be a better deal for you if you have a Prime account or pad your order to hit the Free Super Saver Shipping threshold.

Of course they left out the higher priced sets so given what's left I think X marks the spot. It's been a while since 9493 has been nicely discounted.

Oh and my oldest will be getting some new Star Wars Lego Boys Pajama Sets. Only $5.24 that's 65% OFF!

Fred Meyer has ALL Star Wars LEGO at 20% off (as far as I can tell, as when I was there the discounts weren't marked yet, but everything I checked was 20% off) PLUS a 10% off Toys coupon in the weekly ad. I picked up my A-Wing there, as well as a couple planet sets. I think Freddies is also discounting Chima, but I didn't check the prices on those, sorry.

Near as I can tell, Target's discount is 5% except for the A-Wing, at least on the lower priced sets I checked. Maybe they went as high as 10% on the bigger sets.

you're probably right, probably just a modest 5% discount. i didn't bother with the math since the prices still seemed high.

i wish there were fred meyer stores near me...

Was going through my amazon order history to see what I paid for the X-Wing Starfighter 9493 and I bought one on March 16th 2012 for $51.16 Almost a year ago to the day at the time of Target posting the sale, wicked. Anyhow does it feel like this set is much older than only releasing in 2012? Maybe I am just having X-wing fatigue.

I picked up an A-Wing just because I had a Target Easter coupon for $5 off a $20 toy purchase. I can't help but wonder if there's a way to influence Target analytics besides just buying similar products. I mean, I can't just buy a bunch of LEGO at Target, because they'll figure I'll buy there, anyway, and don't need the coupons to get me to buy there. There must be some tipping point or pattern they look for.

I have the same coupon as sparkart. I got it as one of the coupons that prints out at the register. I was trying to decide when to use it, and this will be perfect!

$5-off-$20 coupon was a cash register coupon, not a mail coupon. Target analytics follows your buying habits, and makes an educated guess, then offers coupons to entice a purchase.

Target analytics is infamous for offering baby product coupons to a girl. When her father found the coupons, he was a little upset that Target thought she was pregnant. But her buying habits matched those of an expectant mother - vitamins, etc. Turns out she was pregnant, and Target knew before her father did.

I've been trying to do more shopping at Target, but haven't scored another toy coupon, yet.

The Target analytics algorithm tries to catch changes in buying behavior. They are trying to catch customers as habits change, before a new habit cements in the buyers head---with the hope that Target will be the go-to-stop once the habit cements. So buying more at Target wont necessarily garner a coupon. Buying sporadically---a certain theme once or twice a year (birthday + christmas)---or buying during a transition---for example, buying Duplo for a while and then a City set a year or two later---would be more likely to trigger the algorithm.

That said, I probably shop at Target too often. I rarely get these coupons.
