[SW] A UCS Falcon just found a new home . . .uhh wall!

Postby piaknowguy » Sat Mar 16, 2013 10:42 pm

And I am very thankful! Just thought I would share a few pics of my recently acquired 10179 and it's new home! :)
I was thinking of wall-mounting it but am really liking it's placement in the corner of the room right next to the keyboards. Any thoughts?
This is a great-looking kit and an amazing build! With it's iconic theme and 5195 pieces, I can certainly understand why it is considered by many to be the 'Holy Grail' of the Lego world.

Can anyone here tell me more about it's development? Who was on the team that initially designed the UCS Falcon? With the 'buzz' generated by Disney's acquisition of 'Star Wars', what are your thoughts about some Lego Star Wars fans wanting Lego to re-issue another similar UCS Millennium Falcon, much like they are doing with the X-Wing, for example?

Congrats! Any close up pix of your entire collection? Your set up looks really clean and not clustered!

Yes; also an address, alarm code and hours you won't be home.

Thanks for the posts, guys! I actually decided to wall-mount the Falcon! (I had to do it. I would have been lying awake at nights wondering . . . Lol.)

Here are some updated pictures -

I also managed to install some programmable lighting in my Super Star Destroyer. You can see a hint of the results in the above photo. The table near left has a couple of Lego manuals sandwiched between two glass plates. I thought they were just too nice not to display. I used six one inch PVC plumbing flanges as spacers - $1.15 a piece! :)

Cheers!

Thanks! This is not only my 'Man Cave' but also my office, where I spend quite a bit of time. I'm sure you will agree; there are few things more comforting that surrounding one's-self with Lego! :D

Awesome!

I can't help but think the Falcon looks a little lonely without a couple of TIE fighters chasing it.

Would it be possible to get more info on the mounting of the Falcon?

dljbae - Here are a few pics with more on the way. The lighting for the SSD is done with Sylvania Mosaic LED strips. I chose to light just the side facing the viewer. There are many different colors and lighting patterns I can control using the remote. The LEDs can also be dimmed!
As you may notice, I have also put some extra work into customizing the ship.

sparkart - I was able to mount a single tie fighter to the wall. It looks great! The picture doesn't do it justice. Thanks again for the idea!

piaknowguy - thx for the pix! That SSD looks really nice with the lighting. Did you have to do a lot of customization to get that strip of leds to fit?

Keep up the amazing work and looking forward to more pix of your collection!

You are right in the sense that this is no 10179 kit (which I could never buy, or my wife would kill me! =) ), however, it was a fun kit to build and modify.

The quote was taken from this thread.

'Would' is different than 'Could'. =)
