This is tough. Plus, neither of the mechs looks like the hero's namesake animal. (jk)
Thought you'd like this about the Vatican cameos.

Ok I'm going to have to go look at your Flickr galleries to decide this one! O.o

EDIT:

Wow after staring at your Flickr accounts for about 15 min I finally made my choice. Excellent work by both of you.

Well, I'd like to think we both took the approach that a comic artist might. You want to take inspiration from the namesake animal, but you don't want to be too literal with it. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

PS - here's the actual link to my entry... couldn't resist the opportunitly for some old-school fun.

(still disappointed by the lack of robot penguins in the final 32, particularly those piloted by millionaires' butlers.)

Good luck Wolverine! Good luck Raven!

Only thing I didn't like about the raven was cockpit being on the back. Other than this was a terribly close build as far as interest. Thumbs up to both of you.

Thanks. I don't disagree with your assessment on the "Shadow Beast" cockpit. It was a case of me letting the entry photograph get the better of the design; I originally had the cockpit as "facing forward", meaning that Raven was turned around facing forward and that windscreen was an opaque black part. However, I wanted to maximize the three entry photos and show the entire back view with the cockpit closed (and still show the fig inside). I also liked the idea of a detachable cockpit escape pod. I don't think it would matter to Raven which way her body was facing, but a forward-facing cockpit is still a paradigm that is an awkward one to break.

If I had come up with the overall idea sooner than 2 weeks before the deadline, perhaps I would have worked out a better solution. Still, I'm glad to have made it to the round of 8, especially with this being my first real "humanoid" mech. Really tough competition.

Yeah I liked the detachable aspect of the cockpit and light and the eye. Wolverine was soft and wiry for general on close up images but from afar, the shaping and crap load of guns had a nice touch. Now let’s see how he fairs against his new opponent.
