This is an MOC I've been working on for a while now, and the present rendition is very close to complete.





Right now, I'm having some trouble constructing a sloped, tapering top and bottom for the nose... can anyone help me out?

Questions, suggestions, and constructive criticism are all very much appreciated.

As a matter of fact, I did. I'm afraid that the three stud-base of the 3x12 wing plate proved incompatible with the nose structure, which required a taper from two studs to one over a 10+-stud length. But I appreciate your input, and as you can see this has led me to try a different approach to the fuselage.

The size should be apparent from these pictures. That's 7661 next to the WIP in the latter two.

i'm a little late to the party but i have a suggestion for the covering the top and bottom of the sloped sides from your initial pictures. you only really need to cover the gaps and not necessarily have the studs follow slopes. if you look at pictures of lego's x-wing or the arc-170, they have similar tapering fuselages and just have tiles and/or plates cover any gaps without being secured to the sides. hope this makes sense.

I'm not entirely certain, but are you suggesting that I SNOT the top and bottom?

no not to snot the top and bottom, you just need to lay down some tiles and/or plates to cover the gaps.

Currently at 517 pieces (80 more than 6212), the update:



I'm in the process of transferring what I have into LDD so that 1) I'll be able to finish the MOC using parts I don't have, 2) I can have instructions made, and 3) I'll know how many pieces this will have when complete.

I finnaly find your newest WIP.

I'll comment few things for now:
- Nice choice of pieces for the engines! I've thought about using them, too, but they are to small
in diameter (I think.). I'll use these. New ones are a bit
pricey, and they are in old grey, but I think they'll be just perfect.
- I'm not so sure about the guns. My version will definetly be different than your's,k but it's nice to
see something that actually looks accurate in this cruel world of inaccurate minifig scale X-wings.
- Markings on the wings don't look realistic to me. I'll make mine using stickers, but this seems
like the best puristic solution.
- Rear end looks very good.

How ever, i looks like the most accurate minifig scale X-wing ever (although it's a WIP).

Nicely done! Any reason why you didn't built it to fit a full size R2 unit?

Because R5-K6 really was just a head.

Honestly, I find the official astromech bodies and legs considerably bulkier relative to the head than I would like - ideally, the entire thing would be only slightly wider than the greeble behind it - so I designed the fuselage studs-up with only a 2-wide socket in mind, not unlike errbt, simply because I didn't see the need for a more complicated solution at the time.
