The Hobbit Set List and Pictures

LEGO The Hobbit - Your Quest Begins

I received the above poster today and managed to take better pictures of the sets that are printed on the back. For those of you avoiding spoilers, you might as well stop reading here. Oh and try and not read the post tags there at the bottom.

Besides the board game, there are six sets pictured:

  • 79000 Riddles for The Ring

  • 79003 An Unexpected Gathering

  • 79002 Attack of the Wargs

  • 79010 The Goblin King Battle

  • 79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders*

  • 79004 Barrel Escape*

The last two sets are labeled as "Special The Hobbit Trilogy Preview Set!"s. I have no idea what that means. If memory serves, sets based on the movie are slated to be released December 1, so a preview set might mean they will be available earlier? There isn't much time between now and then so keep your eyes peeled. We'll keep you updated when we get more info.

I'm inexplicably in love with that Goblin King set.

I like how there seems to be a set for every song from the old Rankin/Bass version.

Hardly intentional, but there's still a part of me that wants to take the Goblin King and just start singing with it.

I can't tell from the pictures, but are ALL the dwarves represented between these sets? It looks like there ARE 13 dwarves, but I can't tell if there are any repeats from set to set.

Where is the poster from?

Also, I think those sets were originally from the 1st hobbit movie, but when it got split into 3 parts (as opposed to 2) those scenes got moved to the second film, meaning we might not get the sets until then.
Thought you'd like this about the Vatican cameos.

All 13 dwarves are included, in fact there are no duplicates of dwarves among the sets! The sets labeled Hobbit Trilogy preview sets refer to scenes that are not going to be in the first movie (due to the recent change from 2 movies to 3 movies).

I wonder if we'll ever get an invisible Bilbo or Frodo made all out of trans for when they are wearing the precious...

Also it seems odd to me (but the labels make sense) that the Spiders and Barrels sets would have been in the first film (when there were going to be two) since after that....(assuming someone out there hasn't read the book)...
Spoiler: show
they pretty much just go to Laketown, up to the mountain, kill Smaug and have a battle
...would that have been enough for a whole film? I guess The Two Towers spent an hour or so at Helm's Deep...I was expecting part 1 to end with
Spoiler: show
Beorn

I agree it seems odd to pack so many of the book's exciting parts into the first movie... and I agree that what you mentioned seems like the most intuitive place to end the first film. Perhaps the second film will have more focus on
Spoiler: show
Gandalf's doings, or that new girly elf character that's (supposedly) being added.

Given how much of the book's plot would seem to be included in the first movie, sticking the first thing I mentioned (at least) into it too would just be nuts.
