2012 SDCC LEGO Star Wars Limited Edition Exclusive Set Review: Darth Maul's MINI Sith Infiltrator

This year's San Diego Comic Con limited edition exclusive is not an Advent Calendar, thankfully. Instead, it's Darth Maul's MINI Sith Infiltrator. No set number as far as I can tell. The set comes with a promotional shirtless Darth Maul figure packaged in a tin. Containing 84 pieces, it will set you back $40 big ones. Only 1,000 were made and 200 are being sold each day on a first come first serve basis with a purchase limit of two per transaction. So, is it worth it?

Nope!

You'll have to excuse my lack of quality photos; given the rip off nature of the set, I didn't feel like putting in much effort. Plus, the lighting in my hotel room is terrible and I don't have my flash or tripod on me.

The packaging itself is pretty unique as everything comes inside a tin canister. There is a graphic of Maul riding his Sith Infiltrator like a sport bike that wraps around the outside. The label also has the edition size and the number of the set you get. Open it up and you'll find a very high quality instruction manual. The pages appear to be thicker than other instruction manuals that LEGO's produced. The pieces for the Sith Infiltrator come in a plastic bag that is secured by a piece of tape. It doesn't convey the same amount of quality as the instructions do and is more akin to a homemade set than one sold by LEGO. You also get the polybag promotional shirtless Maul figure.

The Sith Infiltrator lacks a bottom of any kind or landing gear so you end up having to display it with the nose hitting the ground with the flaps out or you can flatten the flaps against the underside of the body and have it lay level. You can attach Darth Maul to the handlebar to recreate the action shot used on the tin's label. It's kind of a neat little model but in no way is it worth the $40 dollar price tag they're asking for it. The Maul figure alone has an average price of ~$40 on Bricklink, with prices as low as ~$11. Still, even with that rationality, I still can't recommend buying one.

I think with only a 1000 made its well worth it. This really has exclusive written all over it! Also the 200 per day limit will create a sweet buzz :D

well since you obviously don't like yours -- send it to ME!

i think $40 isn't bad for an exclusive minifig and set. it's much better looking than those lame cubedudes from last year!

eBay store, contact me if you'd like to perform trades from my inventory. I'm looking for original genosian fighers, second version a-wing fighters and tie bombers. I may be interested in other sets so let me know what you have.

Well, it's worth it in the sense you can sell it on ebay and then go buy a 100 dollar plus set you really want.

Looks like a rip off for 40 bucks if your gonna keep it though.
