Don't these cross over into the "action figure" department that Lego can't enter with the Star Wars license? I'd assume these would already exist if that wasn't the case.

Interesting if true, since Hasbro own both the SW and Marvel licences, it would mean if that were the case it would be due to someone higher up the chain, since Marvel ultrabuilds are allowed.

Those look really fun. Nice blend of the old Technic Star Wars figures and the super poseable ball joint based parts. I never got into Bionicle and related lines, but these I would find hard to pass up.

yeah, some of the parts could be swapped to make character more/less buff. But people get the idea. I get the feeling if LEGO could have made these they would have already though

It's back and it's archived for exactly the reason I figured, they cross into action figure territory. Too bad.

its sad they shelved this build, its nothing like what hasbro builds and is more a building toy than a action figure. Mega blocks made ultra builds like this and there was never a gripe from the company that built their figures

Why was this even archived? They are basically the same as the Superhero ultrabuilds. And they were archived because the went into "action figure territory". THEY ARE THE SAME THING. ....must....control....rage.....

Physically, yes, they're the "same thing." But that is not what this is about. This is about Lucasfilm Licensing allowing Hasbro to produce Star Wars action figures and action toys and allowing Lego to produce Star Wars construction toys. The licensing agreements can get very specific. These Ultra Builds may fall into the construction toy category, but they also infringe on Hasbro's action figure license. Plus, Hasbro doesn't want Lego to produce items that resemble action figures since it may reduce Hasbro's action figure sales (they complained to Lucasfilm Licensing about the Star Wars minifig packs years ago). It's the same reason Hasbro cannot produce Star Wars construction sets (Kreo).

Hasbro have historically been very protective with the Star Wars action figure license. They like being the exclusive source for them and Lucasfilm lets them dominate it. Meanwhile, Marvel and DC are more permissive. So yes, the toys themselves aren't any different, but the licensing hurdles are significantly higher.
