Giant Lego Christmas Tree @ St Pancras Station (in the UK)

Postby bigospedros » Wed Dec 21, 2011 4:21 pm

Since I was in London at the weekend and staying close to St Pancras, we made a trip to see the giant Lego Christmas Tree that's on display at St Pancras train station. Obviously I was wearing my FBTB shirt to give a bit of coverage for this wonderful site ;) It's a pretty cool construction and a great advert for Lego too.

That is seriously cool. I wonder what kind of reinforcement is required to make a LEGO structure that tall and spindly stand up? I don't see any wires steadying it. My first thought was that it would have been nice if they had added some branches spreading up and down, instead of having them all strictly planar on each level, but then the picture with you in it made it clear that, from underneath where most will view it, that is really unnecessary.

You should front page this Pete, that's cool as hell! Think it's a world record too. LEGO is all about the big, this year!

Pete, do you know if this tree will still be there next week? Would love to see it in 'real'

there are a couple of wire cables attached to the tree; but St Pancras station can be a little "windy" - I assume its more to ensure it doesn't "blow over" - I pass the tree everyday and I don't remember there being cables when it was first installed.

There are a couple of wires supporting it, which you can see in the first picture.

Andi ... no idea on when it will disappear, I'm afraid.

Yep Duncan and Ed did a great job of it,

there is a metal structure inside the trunk and the only glued parts are the branches!
1500 lego baubles i do believe.
