For the North American market, LEGO Shop@Home is discounting the UCS 10215 Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter 25% off. Sale price is US $74.98 and CA $97.49. Anyone really surprised to see that it's on sale already? I can't really blame LEGO for such a bad set, the source material wasn't really anything to write home about either. Anyways, the sale price ends 12/31. Remember, you get free shipping if your order is over $99 and placed by December 14.

Given that everybody agreed this set was overpriced to start with, this is about as clear an acknowledgement as you'll get that LEGO got the price point wrong - obviously hardly flying off the shelves....

conversely, UK S@H has no price decrease and a limit of only 5 per customer. I wouldn't buy 1 at £95, let alone try to buy more than 5!

Even a 25% discount wouldn't be enough to make me want this.

I would not say that this is a 'bad' set - the construction and design are quite good*, but the price point was horrible. Good to see that this is going down in price, maybe now I can start recommending it.


* I had occasion to see and extensively photograph the 'real' model - the lifesize prop was on display at the Indianapolis Children's Museum some time ago. Very cool to see - if only the designer of this set had been able to see it, too.

I'm considering waiting for a 50% off markdown on it.

The Twilight set suffered from the same issue. Boring design and overpriced. I waited and they eventually marked it to 50% off. Funny thing was, they were also offering double points when it was marked down, so I got retail points for something that cost 50% as much as the original... One thing about the twilight set, is its a good spare parts set for MOCs ;-).

Coincidentally I just landed this for $80 shipped from eBay. I like the model, its has a good selection of colors and techniques, and it looks great on display. I think $75 is a fine price for this set and is only 11c per piece. Any cheaper would be an absolute steal but this discount places the price right where it should have been all along.

You may be able to get the better price if you call and talk to a supervisor. Especially if it hasn't shipped or arrived yet. Just tell them if they don't you'll return the one you just bought and buy the lower price one. My experience is that I can usually talk them into a credit when there's a situation like this without too much hassle.
