And every Lego pirate set will be twice the price they currently are, thanks to Johnny's mug being on the box. You know, i'm both looking forward to this, but also dreading it... it's a strange feeling. Most unusual for my Lego hobby. Anyone else have this sense of foreboding/trepidation?

The large hairpiece/hat on that prototype minifig bothers me, but recent licensed themes have been pretty good about prices. It's just Star Wars that's really expensive. I'm really curious what the line would look like, but if it's terrible, I already have a pirate ship, so it doesn't matter to me one way or the other. If they make Curse of the Black Pearl sets, I'll probably have to get them out of nostalgia though.

As others have pointed out, this was well anticipated and expected by LEGO pirates fans.
Announcment of new PotC + Disney License + Abrupt Pirates cancellation = LEGO PotC was pretty much inevitable.

The pirates line is already the most expensive original theme anyway, given the price/piece ratio. I'm quite looking forward to this just to be able to get a new mix of faces, parts, and ships to add to my slowly growing armada. I've got Brickbeard's and the Flagship, and would love to see the Interceptor or Pearl added to the mix.

I wonder if we'll ever have sets based on the 3 first movies. As of now (and do correct me if I'm wrong) only sets based on the 4th opus are confirmed by Lego

I don't see why not.

When Indy 4 came out we got sets from the original films, same goes for Toy Story 3, and oh yeah, Star Wars. So sure, maybe we'll see the same with this.

I wonder if the expensive Pirates line was a gauge for possible pricing for the PotC line. Since several movie license Lego lines seem to be overproduced, the Pirates 2 series may have been a pricing/marketing prototype....

Only the license agreement has that answer For now I'm not sure Lego has the rights to do older POTC sets (or at least they wnt to keep it secret...).

I would really love to see a Black Pearl set and other great goodies. Anyhow I'm sure the POTC4 sets will be amazing.
