So I believe it. I'm just not keen on it. Digitally remastering was one thing, but it just won't feel right in 3D. Oh well, I'll at least wait for some guinea pigs here to watch it first and see wha tthey think.

Hmmmmmm...so let's think about the realities of this move...keep in mind I am a HUGE fan of both the original trilogy and the prequels for their own respective contributions (but admittedly a bigger fan of OT)....

Pros:
-NONE (except for Lucas/Spielberg of course)

Semi-pros:
-3D Portman
-Pod race, pod race, did I mention pod race?
-Some of the obvious battle scenes (grievous chase, battle of Geonosis, etc)

Cons:
-Hayden's bad acting (or Lucas' bad writing) whichever you believe it to be, even more in my face
-Hayden's acting, oh wait, I said that already
-Paying to see it all over again and putting more money in Lucas' pocket.

He seems to re-release the films for each generation...to get more money in his pocket.


I wonder if the OT will be the special editions or originals, but I think we all know the answers. We can watch Greedo shoot first in 3D.

I wonder if the PT's attendance will be high enough to continue the releases into the OT. Of course, I probably am underestimating the number of families that'll take their kids to see them.

Uh... I'm kinda digging the idea. 3D is no big thing to me, though maybe it'll be better by the time these come out (seriously, look at the advances in just the last couple years), but watching movies in a theater, even after going to them almost every week, is always a fun experience.

While I agree that the high quality transfers are great, am I the only one who's noticed that doing so made the OT that much better, and PT that much worse? When I watch the PT on my high-def now, you can see how cheap the special effects look, especially in scenes like the battle of Geonosis. Blu-ray is great and all, but BOY does it highlight the green screen effects and not for the better. Now compare that to the OT high-def releases and those look amaaaaazing because it was all done with models so there's nothing to jump out at you like "WOW THAT"S REALLY FAKE LOOKING" like in the PT. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure some will disagree. But back to 3D, it's never good to remaster a 2D movie into 3D, anyone remember Clash of the Titans??????

My kids both love Star Wars and neither were old enough to see any of the films in the theater. I can't wait to take them to the theater to see the movies on a big screen. I can care less about the format, 2D or 3D, I don't want to pay the jacked up prices associated with 3D but will make an exception for my kids.

My thoughts exactly.

The computer generated imagery is one thing. Provided they have the scenes stored with all necessary data they can "simply" re-render them in actual 3D. Where it gets wonky is with the live action material - the actors, model shots, etc. that were originally recorded in good old 2D.

3D Portman sounds nice, but all you will be seeing is the work of some graphics artist who has yanked her cleavage into shape with his mouse pointer...

Lego satisfies any needs I have to see Star Wars in 3D. It's truly 3D, and I get to decide if Han shot first.

Why is it that every treats Lucas making money as dastardly? The whole point of entering into a business is to make money, it's expected. Yeah, he may have a lot already, but he did the work for it, he deserves to get it. Also, there are TONS of other successful people and companies that never get flak like Lucas does, even though they do the same thing.
