...are these still available in random sets, or is this thread's stickied status kind of pointless by now?

There may be some chrome Vaders in 2009 sets, unless the 10,000 units were already gone.

That's actually pretty awesome that they're still around if you're lucky like that.

I still can't believe that with all the sets I bought last year I never ended up with one.

Who's got one they want to let go cheap? heh.

I had no idea how these things were being distributed. I've seen them selling for $30 bucks on eBay... but wondered if they were a TRU give away like the Storm Troopers. Awesome. I may have to go weigh some battle packs!

Thanks for the information. (sorry if this constitutes off topic)

Make sure not to weigh the ones from 2010...
The Chrome Vader is a little older than that.

yeah, so far I've had no luck.

I've been weighing set #8014 & #8015 with no luck so far. 8014 seem to be all about 114-115 grams and the 8015 seem to all be about 111 grams.

I've tried using ounces, but there seems to be mare variance in the weight when I use grams. I may have to fork over more money than I want for one of these...

but, I've also got 4 unopened Echo Base (7749) sets I bought on sale at Target and a Battle Of Endor (8038) that could potentially house a Chrome Vader... to open, or not to open... that is the question....

:/

The answer is open... and build... and play.

yeah, my son has the Echo Base, and I bought him a pre-owned Endor to give to him for x-mas this year (2010), so I've been able to build both of them already....

still conflicted..

Yeah, I am still shocked that there were any still in sets. Even more so that i got it in a set that was for sale at such a great price. :)

What kind of scale are you guys using? I used a digital one from Walmart...snuck it off the shelve. Thought I found a keeper....ended up not having Vader though. Maybe they are all gone...who knows. Walmart had a couple good deals on Lego Star Wars stuff though....like almost $20 off.

I just opened my Battle of Endor and my 2nd (and last) Echo Base sets last night. Sadly, no chrome vader. :'(

I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever be lucky enough to find a "chrome figure in a box".

Does anyone know if the chrome vader has been found in sets sold in Canada?

Also related, after being depressed about no vader, I finally opened my Chrome Stormtrooper (the magnet one). I have to say I'm a little disappointed. The chrome "paint" doesn't look to be applied properly behind the arms. Its got little white patches there. Is that normal for that figure?

Are there quality differences between the poly-bag chrome stormtrooper and the magnet one? (I also don't think the polybag chromey was ever offered at Canadian TRU stores)

Thanks.

This was offered back in March...you had to buy something for it...$15+ of Star Wars LEGO...in short, a battlepack isn't enough. From what I can tell the chromie was the same between the magnet set and the bag, and, yes, it appears the chroming was done after the application of the chrome coat, the "pits" getting missed in the process.
