Official LEGO Board Games

Postby The Jinja Ninja » Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:58 am

Here's the Brothers Brick post:

TBB wrote:LEGO has announced the release of six new board games in the second half of 2009 where players construct their own board and dice, adding a level of fun where one can play a new version of the game each time. The UK and Germany Toy Fair Press release have more coverage on these new products, but unfortunately the US will not be seeing them anytime soon as the games are to be first released in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, UK and Ireland with more countries to follow in 2010.

Not in America, it seems...

Ah well, what do we make of this?

I have to say, those micro-figs look interesting (and I mean that in the most scandinavian possible way). However, depending on the price, this does look like it could be a nice parts pack (all those trans 1x1 cones give me goosebumps). It's a different direction, but not necessarily a bad one, so long as they don't stray too far from traditional LEGO pieces. Who knows, maybe we'll even get some cool new pieces out of it.

The beauty of a LEGO MOC is not the elements that go into it, but the way those elements are put together.

It's a strange direction, I agree. Still, it's a neat idea, and while I personally won't be buying these (not even for pieces, which I agree that this look good for), I hope they're successful.

I think this is a natural progression actually, since we already have ludo, chess and tic tac toe for example. Is it possible that the heads on those little figures are standard minifig heads on specialised bodies, and it is possible that those bodies would make it into standard sets?

I'm interested but not alot more I can say until we see pictures of the other 5.

Ah, this reminds me of the old LEGO Racer and LEGO Creater board games. Though the board wasn't built in LEGO, it was still a lot of fun. I may have been interested in these if they were available in the States.

I was never one to put interest in Lego Board games but these are cool

As long as the games are made as well as Lego sets are in general, then they will be great. Somethings like minifigure pens to give just one example, are not as well made as normal bricks. The tic tac toe and chess games that I have bought in the past are excellent. The 4+ Pirate game not so much.

I won't be a buyer until TLC releases Battlefield board games, complete with micro tanks/micro infantry units/micro helicopters...That would be totally amazing. Think: To be able to BUILD a huge sized battlefield ... compared to the normal brickwars sized battlefield. If one put as much effort and area/pieces into a micro battlefield as they do with minifigure battlefields, worlds will be made.

I remember saying that it would be a good idea for Lego to make games in an earlier post, but I was going on about board games like Haunted House (Ghost Castle?) Clue (Cludo) Monopoly, battleships, though it would be better if they could include a game with minfigures, as it would be more likely to sell.
I still love the Lego chess set but they (Lego) need to make the sets more detailed than what I've seen sofar.
For example, the Haunted house theme would be a good way of bringing the universal monsters back, as well as making a spooky haunted house into the bargain.
Anyway we'll see what happens but I think this could be an interesting concept, regards Marty

Those microfigures are extremely interesting... especialy if on the very outside chance they make a SW or Indy board game.

Those look like the early minifigures what with the little stubs on the sides. Very cool, though.
