New Gentle Giant R2 statue. Spring 2010. Looks pretty sweet, because the arms and little bits are removable.

Don, do you know the USB-Hub R2D2? I discovered it at starwarsshop.com last week. Got it for my dad as birthday present. He always likes R2 most when watching Star Wars, and he needs an USB hub for his laptop.

After looking at that last link from Chris, I got to thinking: Has there ever been an R2 Grille (an actual, functional one) made and marketed? I'd imagine the top "dome" flipping up to reveal the grilling area. It could be either gas or charcoal, but if it was gas, the tank could be stored in the lower part. I'd also think there would be slots (similar to the link) for your different grilling tools (tongs, spatula, etc.). Plus, like the real R2, there would be wheels on legs and torso that would allow you to wheel it around.

I could go searching for this myself, but I figured an R2 expert such as yourself would know if such a thing ever existed. If nothing else, I would have thought that at least one hobbiest would have thought to do this. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do for a person with basic metal-working skills.

At some point in the past (early 80s?) they made an R2-D2 cassette tape player, that also has four (i think?) sound effects buttons to make the standard beeps, boops, woos, and screams that R2-D2 is known for. I've only ever seen one, owned by Jonah Matranga.

When his band split up he did a few years of acoustic shows, with his pre-recorded drums and other things played on the R2-D2. He'd also add the sound effects to be silly. You can catch a few glimpses of R2 in this video, and the sound effects get used a lot starting around 1:45.
