Now that I've had overnight to adjust, I thought I'd actually put how I really feel. I don't really deal well with surprises like this, and my defenses just shoot right up. I logged on last night to check in with my LEGO peeps and was greeted with the end of an era. However, I thought that if I didn't bid a proper adieu to everyone, I'd probably regret it later.
I can't say that I'm terribly surprised by this announcement. The writing's been on the wall for some time. The contests have been almost non-existant since the reboot. The updates come less frequently. And the Star Wars line has less relevance and importance in LEGO's overall vision for the brand. Well, it's better to go out in a blaze of glory than to fizzle.
I'd have offered to take the reigns myself, but I'm in largely the same position as the administrators, what with a stressful job, a house to maintain, and kids to care for. Sometimes, we barely have enough room in our lives for the A and nothing left over for the FOL. I trust Andrew will do well with the site. I just hope he lets it die rather than change it to something like From Zombies to Japanese Culture, which seem to be two of his major LEGO kicks over the last year. As evidenced by my initial reaction, I don't do well with change.
So, for all the good friends I've made here, let's hook up through the PM system (while it's still active) and figure out how to stay in touch. Maybe it'll be through Facebook or Twitter. Or hey, maybe we can even start our own site, albeit one that requires minimal upkeep. See you all on the other side.
