LEGO/Disney Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time First Look

Postby Staff » Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:43 am

I've uploaded my pics of the Prince of Persia line. Nothing too much to get excited about... except for the ostrich and the camel elements. Yep, you heard, me, an ostrich and a camel. I'm not sure what happened to the white balance setting in the ostrich pic, but the feathers are supposed to be black. Anyways, tt was just minifigs on display, and these were all prototypes, so please keep that in mind when viewing the images. They are all available for viewing in the LEGO Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time flickr set, some highlights below:

These look okay, but completely overshadowed by how good the TS2 collection is. A replacement for Indy perhaps?

But what's Mon Mothma doing there and why did you shoot one of them?

The new Turbans and Arabian Helmets look cool, but the rest don't look good
compared to the game, at all. The ostrich doesn't that great, and the Camel looks odd.
Toy Story is a lot more exciting.

These are preliminary figs remember. I'm not excited by the license itself, but the accessories and animals might be great. And of course the sets in themselves could be good too. Noone bought up the Avatar sets, but the Fire Nation ship is certainly one of the best buys for bricks in years.

I can only think of:

That's because this is based on the Disney movie coming out, not the video game.

I've always liked the look of Arabian art and architecture, so I have really high hopes for this line. I think that the Taj Mahal set looks pretty cool, but it's just too much tan for me to drop the money on it, so I really hope they get some similar geometric stuff on the future POP sets. What do you suppose the odds are for single-element onion domes?

No. He pretty clearly means the full dome as one element - not half.

Well, to be fair to him, I didn't even know that the half-domes existed. I'm still relatively fresh out of my dark age. I would guess that, given the fact that the mold all ready exists, the chances of a full onion dome are slim to none.

You don't want the onion dome that SuperDave linked to... it's more than a half dome, so putting two of them together will look kind of silly.

Is it just me, or does the ostrich and camel look more like wood models then LEGO figures.

I noticed that too. I'd just think it was the fact these are prototypes, though it still looks odd.

I agree, I had to do a double-take to make sure they were not made of wood

They were most likely made using a 3D printer, such as can be found here: http://www.desktopfactory.com/. Rapid prototypes are usually built in layers, leading to the look that you see in the ostrich and camel.
Here's a YouTube video of a component being "printed" on a home-made 3D printer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Rxk6nlN9uM.

I haven't actually played the video game, but I like the detail of the mini figures. I can't wait to see what the sets themselves will look like.

Hopefully we'll get some type of middle-eastern market place to play with.

When are these anticipated on possibly being released? in 2009?

I really like some of the new flesh face designs and clothing and headgear.

Hmm... Barnum's Animals meets Lego... w00t...?

This is one thing that won't be sucking my money away... But then again, I've never played the PoP games, and likely won't be seeing the film... :P
