LEGO Ferrari Shell Cross Promotion Lands Down Under

The LEGO x Ferrari x Shell cross promotion is hitting more countries. The latest is Australia which launched a few days ago on March 14th. It seems that no matter the country, the promotion is the same: you get the same set of six vehicles, which is great 'cause I'd hate to try and chase down country exclusives. No word yet on when the promo will hit stateside but we'll try and stay on top of it. If I was a betting man, I'd guess sometime during the summer.

I actually bit the bullet and bought a set and the display case on eBay recently for $120 shipped. I was looking at the cost of gas here, and Shells are notoriously one of the highest prices gas stations here. I'm talking a good 0.20 cents more than an Arco, or some other smaller station. I fill my tank up once every 2-3 weeks w/ premium, and didn't want to deal w/ having to go to Shell every time I wanted gas. I miiight try to get an extra car or two.

I just read the AUS promotion, and I'm definitely happier buying it from eBay, considering you need to fill up AUD $40 a week and then pay $6 for a set, this wouldn't be feasible. But it now looks like you can just buy them without a gas purchase for $8 there. I don't remember them doing that for Malaysia, Singapore or China, but I might be wrong.

If they allow you to buy w/o purchasing gas, then I paid a big premium. :/

i think initially gas purchase was required for all the other countries, and then this came out:

not sure if going forward the same policies will be in place for other countries. i hope it is cause i really don't want to fill up on shell gas. i like my chevron. and i'm really interested in seeing what those minifigs are.

Darn you Ace!!! Why couldn't you post this last week? That's smart of Shell to sell it separately. I wonder if that's the reason why they changed sets to per week in Australia vs every two weeks in the previous countries.

I was collecting the SW poly's but I wasn't a part of Brickmaster towards the end, so I missed out on all the last ones. I didn't have the money or desire to pay way over premium on them, so I'm not hard core on the polys anymore.

The Shell ones are just really cool. The fact that they have a pull back motor???? - just awesome! I just really like these, and the display case put it over the edge as who knows which one the US will get. We could get the open one that China and Singapore got:

I thought it was cool at first then the other case blew it out of the water as there is a place for the minifigs which the first one doesn't have.

Oh, and it makes sense that it's in Australia now as the Formula 1 season just started in Australia.
