UK Toy Fair 2012 - Super Heroes

Now, this part of the Lego stand was shrouded (quite literally) in secret, with only one or two people being allowed in at a time.  I was shown the DC sets that we've already seen (and some of us have already bought).  The one feature of the 6863 Batwing set that they were showing off was the pretty accurate shadow the batwing creates.

We quickly moved onto the Marvel sets, which were in a section of the stand where they had a bigfig / maxifig build of Ironman which was super cool.

I kinda glossed over the Hero Factory / Super Heroes combos because they didn't really appeal to me.

We then came to 5 new sets from the Marvel line :

6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle ... this was the only set on display to feature Captain America, who was sat astride a motorbike.  The rest of the set was missing, because Marvel had asked Lego not to show it, because it would spoil part of the movie?!  Anyway, there's another un-named minifigure and vehicle ... one can only assume it's an enemy of some sort.  Priced at £11.99, so a bargain whatever!

6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown ... Comes with Wolverine, Magneto and Deadpool ... the figs were all pretty amazing.  Wolverine has normal hands holding the claw pieces, rather than anything moulded like the collectable minifig boxer, as we feared.  I can't actually remember the vehicles included in the set, sorry!  Priced at £19.99.

6867 Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape ... Comes with Loki, Hawkeye and Ironman.  Hawkeye is driving a jeep type vehicle with Loki in the flatbed at the back ... he comes with a custom headpiece and staff and the "Cosmic Cube" (a 1 x1 clear brick!).  I spent most of my time drooling over the Ironman figure, which was brilliant.  My fears over the head being too large were instantly eased and I was amazed to see that the front of the helmet lifts up to reveal whichever of the double sided printed head you've got facing forward.  Priced at £19.99, this set is a must buy purely for that fig!!

6868 Hulk's Hellcarrier Breakout ... I think this was Bruce Banner's lab?  Not sure ... but anyway, the set comes with Hulk, Hawkeye, Loki and Thor.  The Hulk figure was pretty gorram cool, articulated and I liked the fact the head was in the shape of a normal Lego minifig head, albeit it bigger to be in scale.  The Hawkeye figure seemed to have a new bow & arrow type weapon.  Priced at £49.99

6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle ... A pretty substantial set, with the Quinjet being pretty large, very sturdy and eminently swooshable.  Quite a bit of play features (moveable wings, cockpit, pop out undercarriage thingy) and minfigures Black Widow, Ironman, Thor and Loki.  Priced at £69.99, I think ... although I don't seem to have written the price down!

These sets are due to hit in April, so not long to wait.

And that was it ... no sign of any Spiderman or Green Lantern sets, so maybe they're coming later or perhaps they're retailer exclusives.

Deadball? I'm sorry, when I read that  My imagination is conjuring up too many images.
I think you mean Deadpool.

I'm greatly looking forward to this wave, way more than the DC stuff. I'm not a superhero fan by any means, but I find these sets as you've described very interesting and exciting.

sorry, my handwritten notes were pretty scruffy and I'm no expert on this line or theme ... mind you, seems like it's been corrected anyway?!

It's nothing to apologize for, it was just a silly typo. Someone must have spotted it and corrected it. I didn't even know who Deadpool was up until a few weeks ago and largely because of his inclusion in these sets.

I was thinking it was a mistake not to include Bruce Banner in the Hulk set (if the Hulk figure was big enough, why not have a compartment to store Bruce in?), but I guess if you don't include the "normal" versions of the other characters (who have "normal" sides, like Tony Stark, or Steve Rogers), it doesn't matter as much. I still would like the alter-ego's of some of these characters though. Bruce Wayne needs some buddies to hang out with, even if they are from completely different universes.

Well, not knowing much about this character, I would say it's a helmet. It featured the large curling horns and was in pearl gold as a colour. The staff he had was the same colour and a new mould, I believe.

There were no new DC sets shown at the fair that we don't already know about ... whether there'll be some further retailer exclusives, I don't know. For example 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape was not at the fair, as it's just for TRU.

I corrected the spelling of Deadpool, and changed Shelob from a He to a She in the LOTR article. :)

Well, this figure never made it out of the vehicle it was sat in for my demo, but as far as I recall, it had the red headgear, with the black eye holes. But that's about as much as I can remember, I'm afraid.

That's all I need to know! Thanks a lot! It's such a relief that LEGO's gonna make the comic version of Deadpool, instead of the ugly version in X-men Origins: Wolverine :D

If i remember correctly they usually allow photography at the German toy fair, and then new york as well. Maybe that will change this year, though, as it seems like they are being extra precautionary about the Avengers stuff.

I wonder when will LEGO release sets with important characters like Doctor Doom, Norman Osborn, all the members of the original Avengers (comics, Earth 616), Ghost Rider and the Punisher

Do you know if Nick Fury was shown in any of the sets? He may be like a Bruce Wayne; confirmed by Lego but only seen at the last minute.

Well, if this is a multi-year deal, then next year we should get a good mix. As far as I know, Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 are coming out in 2013, one in the spring and one in the fall. So we should get one Lego wave of each, but I'd imagine half the sets will be movie sets and the other half "classic" sets, as its pretty hard to pull a whole wave of Lego from one film.
