the different heads of Indiana Jones

When I made this photo recently I discovered that Indy's face is slightly different several times. Once his eyes have white dots, once they are completely black. Then the beard is thin or a bit thicker. Or the mouth is closed or open.
Do you know why LEGO changed the head so many times?
And which is your favourite?

The black eyes on the Venice Indy are obviously a mis-print. The set picture for 7197 on S@H shows him with white dots (zoom in to see it clearly).

The flash makes it difficult to see the beard differences, but I assume they can all be attributed to print variations. The only head that is different is the rightmost one from 7196 Chauchilla Cemetery Battle. That new head with the smirk also appears in 7199 The Temple of Doom but it seems the other new sets all have the "old" Indy head.

Im guessing just to express different emotions, and from different films. My favorite is Indy in a tux from Shanghai Chase

I wish we had the new sets here to be able to make the comparison. I don't know of anyone who has found any new Indy set at retail here in California yet.

All the Indy heads w/ non open mouth grin are the same printing, but the machine can't prit them all alike, almost like snowflakes and the open mouth grin is like that, does that help? (I just like this... )
