[E3] LEGO Dimensions Is Dead, But Enjoy These Pictures of The Upcoming Powerpuff Girls Minifigs

I tweeted about this yesterday, but I am pretty sure LEGO Dimensions is dead, put out to pasture, retired, discontinued, whatever you want to call it. But there was absolutely no mention of any Year 3 product or plans or anything of the sort. Compared to last year's E3 where LEGO Dimensions banners peppered the concourse between the West and South halls and the dedicated 20 minute presentation of all the new and upcoming content for Year 2, there was absolutely no presence of LEGO Dimensions anywhere other than the three demo stations in the corner of the WB Games booth that was shared with LEGO Worlds and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. A friendly booth worker wouldn't comment on its demise other than a cryptic "We are exploring options for 2018", which, admittedly could mean anything, and still leaves a foot in the door for them to announce some new Fun, Team, Level, or Story pack between now and the next E3. But let's face facts, E3 is the place to announce your games for the rest of this year and even next year and if the best you can do is say nothing, then that does not bode well. Again, this is purely speculation on my part with no official statement from WB, but you can't ignore the details, or lack there of in this case

With all that being said, there is one more wave of sets left coming out later this year in September: The Powerpuff Girls Fun and Team Packs, Teen Titans Go! Fun and Team Packs, and a Beetlejuice Fun Pack. I am super bummed that there is no Mojo Jojo Fun Pack to accompany the three girls. The Powerpuff Girls minifigs look fantastic with their oversized heads and mini legs. These are definite must-buys for me.

I tried to make it back to the WB booth today to see if they had a Townsville level playable since they had the Teen Titans Go! level up yesterday, but I couldn't tear myself away from Nintendo's booth. Tomorrow is the last day E3, so there's a small chance I could go back, but I make no promises. Too much good stuff from the big N.

How crazy would you go for some Zelda Wind Waker minifigures in the same form factor??

I'll be kinda sad to see it go as it has been a great source for minifigures of retro 80's characters. That said, I'm not too surprised. The character and level packs seem to sit on the shelves a long time and I've been seeing them getting cleared out at discount Dollarama stores for $4 CDN a pack. I can't comment on the game itself because, even though I've bought quite a few of the packs for the figures and mini-builds, I don't even own the game. :S

I agree. I don't think there would have been any other avenue to get a Mr. T or Michael Knight minifig other than a possible Ideas set, which could still happen to get the whole A-Team or whatever. But these one-off's were a perfect way to get some of those 80's icons.

And that right there may be a problem. While these 80s-era based characters scratch the nostalgia inside most adults that have lived through them, LEGO being primarily a kids toy and video games primarily targeting a slightly older age group, I would be rather surprised that any kids today would look at some of these packs and think, "I have to have it". Maybe the older parents like myself would (and do), but it's a hard sell to tell your kids that these were popular back in the day. Sonic, Powerpuff Girls and Teen Titans Go! are more contemporary IPs but it might be too little too late.

Now I just have to wait to get all the sets on super clearance at Walmart, just like the Disney Infinity stuff.

I uhm, don't buy these for the game parts but have a friend who does. He asked if any of them were level packs & i just told him what the article said: fun & team packs. His answer was that those descriptors mean nothing to him. So are any of these sets level inclusive? I just get em for the figures; no way i was going to buy the Firehouse just for a Slimer minifig, even if the color is different.

From what I can understand, a Level pack has 5 distinct zones, fun and team packs introduce 3? /shrug the game couldn't hold my attention enough to get far enough for to find out.
