[SDCC 2014 Mega Thread] DC Comics & Movies

Postby Staff » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:50 am

Is there a better way to start a DC thread that isn't a picture of Batman? Probably...

Image

Comic-Con isn't just about LEGO (or comics really), it's about pimping the movies and tv shows that with any luck will translate INTO awesome LEGO sets. First up on the DC side of things is this Sears Portrait Studio picture 9just kidding, this picture's good) of Ben Affleck's Batman from the Upcoming court case: Batman v Superman. This time the picture is in colour, but it's Batman so it really doesn't matter and it's closer, so there's a lot less batsuit for people to complain about! He's still looking pretty bummed about something, or maybe he's just playing Angry Birds on his phone.

"Huh? Sorry, I wasn't listening. I was just texting on my Batphone."

On a side note, does anybody still play angry birds? As far as I know, Candy Crush saga is all the rage now.

[SDCC] First Photo Of Gal Gadot As Wonder Woman

Postby Staff » Sat Jul 26, 2014 9:02 pm

DC's panel in Hall H today revealed the first image of Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman costume. This version is more Amazonian battle armour and less stars and stripes, but that fits with where they seem to be going. They also showed the first teaser of from the film featuring Superman facing down Ben Affleck's caped crusader in an armoured suit much like the one from The Dark Knight Returns. I'm not going to post the leaked cell phone pictures here, but they are out there if you look hard enough.

EHhhhhhh...

Like, it's hard to even muster up a reaction at all- this is so incredibly bland it's hard to see anything that distinguishes it as "Wonder Woman" instead of "generic lady warrior". And I'll never understand modern superhero movies' aversion to color.

She kind of looks like Xena, which I suppose isn't a bad thing.

I was kind of hoping for more of a n52 look to the costume, which has been a nice update. That being said... Wonder Woman is all about how the do the character (which is why I have a lot of apprehension here... Snyder hasn't ever done female character leads well, and when they're supporting, they get a lot worse).

She's going to be too busy hanging with S.H.I.E.L.D.

That gloomy, subdued color palette has got be one of the the Instagram generation's favorite filters. I think it looks good, but my eyes are starting to tire of it, too. In Snyder's universe, this Wonder Woman's look works fine for me. How could Wonder Woman's be much different than colored leather straps and a few metal adornments, and still evoke the allure of the classic comic-book Wonder Woman? A battle armor Wonder-Woman could look cool.

Superman's got his space-suit Under Armour, Batman's got his electrified power-suit, let's give Wonder Woman some heavy metal.

The whole movie is actually just Batman and Supes milling about by a tree.

BTW, Josh Book added some color:
