Toy Fair Report: The LEGO Movie

No big surprises from this theme. I'm still bummed there's not a Batwing set from the Movie but who knows, maybe there's a exclusive of it coming down the line at some point. The Sea Cow reveal was in one of those cases they used at Comic Con, so all the pics I took have this white filmy texture. Thankfully, LEGO has sent over the official clean images this morning so the Sea Cow section will be rife with pics. There's also a press release for the official announcement. Because of all that, I've placed the Sea Cow set at the bottom of the post, even though numerically they should be first. Enjoy!

Benny looks fantastic. Looks just like all my other childhood lego space minifigs. I'm glad they faded the logo.

The Benny helmet ... is it actually broken or has it been made to look broken even if it's all joined up as one piece?

Made to look broken.

I'm tempted by all of these, especially the Spaceship, but I'm not sure how many of them I'll actually end up buying. Probably depends a lot on BrickCon and when I start working again.
More than wanting to buy any of these though, I want to see someone use that canopy to make a Classic Space themed UCS X-Wing. That'd be awesome.

Cool to see Johnny Thunder in there. I looked out for him in the film but didn't see him. Shame, as his little car set was my favourite set as a kid and I still think it's pretty cool today.

Drat, I was really hoping that the Batman in the set would have a new face... We don't have nearly enough Bat Emotions, and Batman in The LEGO Movie displayed a lot of emotions (annoyance, anger) that would have been perfect. That said, I'll still probably get the Dropship and Sea Cow, but it feels like a wasted opportunity.

Between these and the new Star Wars sets, my wallet is going to cry. I really love Benny's Spaceship and am glad I can finally get a blue classic space minifig to go with my yellow, and the red with broken helmet I found in the yard. The pictures of the dropship make it look a little small for the price, especially in the pictures where its being held.

Are the new movie sets coming in June or August? The display cards in Toy Ark's photos show August.

Just realised something.

To anyone who missed it, check out the name of Benny's Spaceship set.

Are the Johnny Thunder and Lloyd (Green Ninja) figures exact re-releases of the older figures? It's funny, not being very into Ninjago I didn't have a Llyod figure, so I helped myself to one on Bricklink after the movie. I'm kind of curious because it would seem that with that addition I now have all the figures from the Police Dropship. And since I can hardly afford the Benny's spaceship which I "need", that would be a good thing.

Johnny is subtly different from the one I have from the very first Adventurers line (Egypt). The rope across his chest isn't outlined in black on mine, but everything else looks pretty much identical. Plus that's something they could have added in for the other Adventurers series post-Egypt, so it might just be the early set ones that don't have it, but couldn't say for sure.

edit: Oh and the eye twinkle. Mine doesn't have that.

Here's a reference image for comparison.

Yeah, Johnny Thunder pre-dates when they added pupils to minifigure eyes (and the only existing figure that has them is a different print entirely), so the face is new. Aside from that and the black outlining that Fordo mentioned, the fig looks to be almost exactly the same as he was before.

On Benny's Facebook page, it was said that his ship was coming in March - if this is moved to June then I'm totally gutted - I don't know if I can wait that long!

I need it to go alongside my LL928 Galaxy Explorer!

I need it now!

I'll also need to talk the other half into letting me get the Sea Cow.

I may need to sell off my original UCS X-Wing, dammit...
