LEGO finally made it official. Press release says sets available in February so we should be seeing more sets soon!

The LEGO Group Announces Partnership With Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products To Launch LEGO® And THE SIMPSONS Branded Merchandise

Construction Set and Minifigure Series Based on the Popular Show Available Beginning February 2014

Products To Coincide With LEGO-Themed Simpsons Episode, Airing May 2014 on FOX

BILLUND, Denmark, Jan. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The LEGO Group today announced a new partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to produce a construction set and licensed LEGO® minifigures inspired by the iconic television series, THE SIMPSONS. In addition, FOX is scheduled to air a special LEGO episode of THE SIMPSONS in May 2014 featuring Springfield and its cast of characters in LEGO form.

Scheduled to launch this February in LEGO stores and via the LEGO Shop at Home catalog and website, the construction set will recreate the iconic Simpsons family house in LEGO form. Also included in the LEGO and THE SIMPSONS construction set is the entire family: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie along with neighbor Ned Flanders. A separate line of 16 LEGO THE SIMPSONS minifigures will launch in all mass toy retailers in May 2014.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Fox during the 25th anniversary year of the Simpsons," said Jill Wilfert, vice president licensing & entertainment at The LEGO Group. "We know our fans will love the challenge of building the Simpsons' family home in great detail and the ability to collect quintessential characters in LEGO minifigure form will let them showcase their love of the show in a whole new way. We are also excited that THE SIMPSONS will be created in LEGO form, truly bringing this partnership to life."

"We are kicking off the 25th anniversary of THE SIMPSONS in a big way, and we think LEGO-loving fans of the show will be impressed with this collaboration that represents the best of both iconic worlds through the LEGO and THE SIMPSONS construction set, minifigures and LEGO-themed episode," said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. "Our partnership with LEGO is the perfect addition to the range of product lines that will be introduced globally in celebration of this great milestone achievement in television history."

Created by Matt Groening, THE SIMPSONS is the longest-running scripted show in TV history. Since premiering in December 1989, the series has become a cultural phenomenon, recognizable throughout the world. The show was named the "Best Show of the 20th Century" by Time Magazine, has won 28 Emmys and its theatrical short, "The Longest Daycare," was nominated for a 2012 Oscar.

The LEGO THE SIMPSONS house will be available February 1st in LEGO retail outlets for $199.99 (USD). The line of LEGO THE SIMPSONS minfigures will launch in May 2014 in all major toy retailers for $3.99 (USD) each.

So do you think the price hike on the minifigs is only for the Simpsons line, due to the cost of the license? Or are they just taking this opportunity to raise the price for ALL future minifig series to $3.99?

I sure hope it is the former, as I have no interest in getting the Simpsons ones, but am not quite ready to abandon the line, and a 33% price hike will seriously give me pause if it is true for all future series.

It actually says the construction "set" will be available in February. i.e. singular. It seems to me that this is the only Simpsons set they're looking at releasing for now (other than the minifigs). I thought that might be the case when they included the entire family (and Ned) with the house. If there were multiple sets, I'd have thought Lego would have spread the main characters throughout the range to encourage people to buy them all.

I can't see the $3.99 minifig price transitioning over to regular minifigs. I guess the price hike is partly due to the license but mainly due to the fact that every figure will need a new head mold.

I'm on the fence about the house. It'd be fun to build something that big, but I'll resist as I don't want Nancy Cartwright getting any of my money that she'll just funnel into the criminal organization that she calls her religion.

My guess is it's a combination of the license and all the specialty molds and printing. but just a guess.

Also I am assuming that all the figures from the house will be part of the 16 figures in the series (with alternate printing i'm sure). Unfortunately that will limit the amount of new figures to 10.

I would kind of like the set, but now I just have to figure out where the combined $264 is coming from.

If the combination of "one set in the theme = likely a short run" + The Simpsons + lots of specialty pieces (including the first ever short sleeve minifig arms + a reasonable price point doesn't have every reseller in the world salivating; nothing will. Just saying...

Hi, regarding the Simpsons set and license, I was sorry to read that it's only the house that's being built but given that there are 16 additional characters to add to the set, that narrows the field as to what to expect.

My guess is;

1.Wiggum,
2.Ralf,
3.Krusty,
4.Comic book guy,
5.Apu,
6.Abe,
7.Millhouse,
8.Grounds keeper willie,
9.Skinner,
10.Side show Bob,
11.Mr. Burns,
12.Moe,
13.Barney,
14.Rev Love joy
15.Martin
16.Nelson

But this is just my guess and it does not even come close to the amount of characters they could choose from, but I'm glad they did a good job with this.

We have a list of 9:
"LEGO is set to release (much like the Olympic minifigures) a complete wave of blind-bag minifigures (series 13 to be precise), with 16 Simpsons characters to collect – including Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Apu, Chief Wiggum, Moe, Itchy and Scratchy and many more of the show’s iconic characters – which will be launched May 2014."

Not continuously running. Doctor Who is 50 years old, but wasn't on the air for 16 years.
If the above post didn't offend you, you're probably reading it wrong.
