Disney Buys Lucasfilm for $4B, Episode 7 in 2015

The reason FBTB came to be. We don't forget our roots.

That's not exactly how Salvatore tells it. He definitely says it was from higher up, but he says the idea to kill him off wasn't from THAT high up. It was definitely APPROVED from that high up, though.

Spoiler: show
Rats! Now it looks as if I didn't bother reading the relevant portion of Chewie's Wookieepdia article before making that post (which I did).

Regardless of who made the decision, the point stands that there exists a similar precedent illustrating the kind of backlash Disney would receive from 'hardcore' fans were it not the smart company we all expect it to be. I'll admit that most people here wouldn't need reminding considering the magnitude of the incident, but on the other hand, it was precisely that conspicuous aspect that provoked me to mention it.

What a terribly banal post I've made - simply dripping with vainglorious mediocrity. I should get in the habit of revising more...

According to the yoyos on Good Morning America this morning, Ford is now down for it, as are the other two...
'Course, they also said 2014, not 2015, so how reliable is this info really?

Ford's willingness to reprise the role of Han Solo is perhaps the most surprising news I've heard out of this whole thing.

It's an odd mixture of excitement and apprehension.

The idea of seeing the original characters in old(er) age is kind of more intriguing to me. It would certainly go a long way toward keeping the new movies interesting to less in-depth fans.

I think it'd be awesome if the producers brought in the three principles, Hamill, Fisher, and Ford, as is, that is to say not returning to their characters in peak physical fitness, or really anything resembling it.

While it appears likely that the Star Wars movies will be sequels to the OT, I would sooner see them base the movies on Old Republic. That universe would be wide open.

I agree, but they're probably waiting to go there until they're positive they can't squeeze anything else out of the OT.

Personally, I think that is the riskier move. They have waited too long to revisit that story line. I for one do not want to see a Star Wars movie based on Luke or Han's kids. Lucas is indeed still involved creatively, it will turn into another movie full of stupid gags for kids and terrible acting.

After I heard the news I bought some Disney stock :) Like it or hate it, Star wars fans are going to check these movies out regardless. A new generation of fans will be created and the merchandising will continue for all the collectors out there.

I think Disney has done a great job with the Marvel characters and development on the big screen and I'm not a such a huge Marvel fan. I have a hard time believing that Disney would allow anything to be produced that would be panned as much as the prequels.

Just my $.02

'Star Wars' producer Rick McCallum officially leaving Lucasfilm

Don't let the Jar-Jar hit you on the way out, Rick.

Is he "leaving on his own" or simply "left behind by Disney"?

We will probably never know, but I'm thinking the second option.

Eitherway, I think it's good to bring in new blood for the next chapter of the franchise, so good news.

Okay, so Episode VII is a loss. Our only hope is that ADHD makes room for a new director prior to VIII and IX.

Honestly, I don't mind it either. JJ's always been a bigger Star Wars fan anyway.

With that said I greatly enjoyed Trek 2009, and will be perfectly satisfied if Into Darkness is half as enjoyable as the former film.

If you really look at it, His first Trek film had a lot of the same energy and momentum as the original Trilogy did, so this news brings everything full circle, seemingly.

As long as the new Star Wars film isn't afflicted with lens flare and shaky cam...
