10179 First edition production run size?

Postby Sidreco » Wed Jun 27, 2012 1:46 pm

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what was the size of the first edition run of the MF?

My certificate is like 10108...I initially thought it would've been 10000 and less, but its obviously larger...

Does anybody known how big?

I don't have an answer, it's something I've wondered myself, but my certificate is in the 19000s.

I can tell you that the announcement that production on 10179 had ended was made in late October of 2009. As for the number produced, I'd be interested to know, but I'm not sure if that's publicly available information (unless you happen to deduce who has the highest number on their certificate of authenticity).

Ok. Who's got the highest Certificate number? Give me your numbers!

As for the production end, it wasn't just for the first edition, but for all of them...

They must've said how many first edition they would make...I mean, the gold 3PO's got it directly on the bag!

Well, good luck with your quest. Let us know what you uncover. Nothing about it on Brickipedia beyond reference to a first edition (which I vaguely recall - thought that was 10,000 units).

Wow! 19000's is the highest I've ever noticed. I've been curious about the whole '1st production run' promotion of 10179. I've not come across any 'official' announcement that it was ever limited to the first 10,000 sets. Instead, that figure in general seems to be a self-perpetuating rumor amongst AFOL. My own set is numbered 12,189 but I'm also (as a collector) rather keen to know just how many 1st edition sets there are.

I'm thinking that figure is reaching 20,000 +

Could the number be so high because they also sent the item to stores / shops to be built and displayed. Logic would tell me those items would not have had certificate numbers in them, but you never know. That's just a thought though.

I still have mine sitting in the Lego shipping box. I am curious to see what number I have but not quite ready to open it.

I'm no help. Just looked at my number for the first time since building it and found it is 3197.
