Best Ever Year for Lego Star Wars Releases?

What was the best single year (to date) for Lego Star Wars Releases?

1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010?

I can't get enough of the 1999 Snowspeeder. Most multiples I've ever bought by a wide margin. 1999 FTW

OK, I wasn't really around (just got a few sets) in 1999, but for my part, I would call 2006. Sets 6206 through 6212 are all such OT goodness it's hardly believable in these CW days. Well, maybe not 6211 (MF scale ISD) as much, but:

I'm torn. I agree with both 1999 and 2006. Actually, I think I'll have to go with 2006 - I have the most repeats from that year and the 6211 isn't that bad, you just gotta be careful with it.

I'd have to go with 2008.

We had the Death Star, and the first load of CW sets. True, the CW movie doesn't compare with the original films, but they are some nice Lego sets.

2006 also gets my vote, mostly because several of my favorite sets were released that year (A-wing, B-wing, Slave I, Jabba's Sail Barge, and a very nice X-wing to boot. . .), but there really wasn't a bad one in the bunch. 1999 is a very close second, for reasons Ace already asserted. 2001 was not bad, either, in my opinion. . .

Kind of depends on what you gauge it by...but I think in the most general sense, it's 1999 for obvious reasons - no contest.

sure 99 was good for sentimental reasons, but 2007 gave us the UCS Falcon and the !!!MOTORIZED!!!! AT-AT.
those are two of the greatest sets i've ever built.
i don't have to elaborate on either.... but i will.
the at-at walks on its own!
and that falcon... perhaps the most (if i can quote vader) "impressive" set of all time.

2007 was indeed a great year, UCS Falcon, MTT, AT-ST....IMO, they really went all out on exploring design capabilities that year with some bold designs. The Motorized At-At has been my most enjoyable build to date and I look forward to building the UCS Falcon during the Christmas holidays. Don't forget Hoth Base! Great set, too! However, I think 2008 is right up there as well with the breadth of releases and quality sets!

Well, for sets, I would say 2006 by far. Many of my most favorite SW sets are from that year. But to those who said 1999, I think OP doesn't mean most important year, but the year with the best sets.

What a fabulous topic. (For what it's worth, I referenced BrickWars Sets year index lists to show me what came out when.)

I choose 2002 as the best year because of the "happiness density" of the products released that year. 2002 was Episode 2's release. It's notable because there aren't too many big sets, but the amount and quality of the smaller or medium sets was awesome. And when they did go big, they went great.

The two big, minifig-based sets were Jango's Slave 1 and the first Republic Gunship. Jango's had some structural problems, but they were easily resolved with a few extra parts, but that first RGS was just a great build. Fun and it looked great. You also got these little sets that were packed with playability and cool minifigs: Jedi Duel (Dooku/Yoda), Tusken Encounter (Anakin/Tuskens), and those fantastic minifig packs (Final Duel I/II, Jedi Defense I/II). The medium sets were a mix of classic re-releases (X-Wing, Y-Wing/Vader TIE) and new stuff (Jedi Starfighter). And the set which, I think, offers the best playability/fun per dollar to this day: Bounty Hunter Persuit with Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Zam. If you like Technic, they did the five Technic character sets. And, last but not least, UCS saw the release of Yoda and the ISD.

We're getting some fabulous sets, for sure, but there were some really fun, smaller sets back then.

2006, since Jabba's Sail Barge is my favorite released set to date. And as has been said, the Slave 1 remake is worth a mention too.

2004 was a magical year. This was when they really started putting out remodeled sets like the new x-wing, snowspeeder, and falcon. It was then I realized just how truely awesome this was going to get!!!

i agree with infillable, 2002 was definitely the best year for lego star wars due to the combination of slave 1 which just looked badass and the great value-for-money republic gunship (and enough minifigs to boot). to this day those are the sets i most regret not buying.

Gotta go with 2008 solely for the release of the single greatest lego set ever, the Death Star.

While i admit i just about peed my pants when i first saw Star Wars lego sets at my local Meijer store (a dream come true from my childhood), i just about pooped my pants when i saw the first online pics of the Death Star. It truly is a gift for all the die-hard star wars lego fans, kids and adults alike. IMO, no other set comes close.

I'd agree that the 2008 Death Star would win for best playset hands down. And yes 1999 gets props for being first.

But for my kids it's between 2002 with the Bounty Hunter Pursuit, Jango Fett's Slave I, Republic Gunship and the awesome UCS Imperial Star Destroyer, and 2007 with the Trade Federation MTT, Sith Infiltrator, Republic Cruiser, Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring, and the massive UCS Millennium Falcon.
