White Boba Fett, Product Book, Chrome Stormtrooper News

Postby Staff » Wed Mar 10, 2010 7:17 pm

I found out some more information regarding the white Boba Fett minifig that was passed out at Toy Fair, along with some other tidbits.

White Boba Fett

White Boba Fett

  • The white Boba Fett figure was the result of a brainstorm idea as an answer to the question of "What would a prototype minifig look like?" They picked a cool figure and came up with the color white to use as the test shot.

  • 10,000 figures will be available for the North American market, less than 20,000 globally

  • The top 100 Shop@Home customers will be given one Fett and one 2010 product booklet (same one that was given out to Toy Fair attendees) for free. Top 100 recipients will be determined by sales records of LEGO Star Wars products. Update: I've just been informed that this is not true. Stay tuned for details.

  • They will NOT show up randomly inserted in 2010 sets.

  • Some Fetts will be given away at San Diego Comic Con and Star Wars Celebration V and possibly fan-held LEGO conventions. They will not be given away at LEGO's booth, so don't flood their booth asking how to get/buy/steal/borrow one. Exact details on how they will be distributed to be determined.

  • The white Fetts are intended for fans, so the distribution plan will not follow previous limited figures such as C-3PO or Darth Vader, or even the Stormtrooper. LEGO is figuring things out as they go along.

  • A white Boba Fett keychain was also produced, a limited run of about 100. These were given out as gifts from LEGO executives.

2010 Product Book

  • The 2010 product booklet had a limited print run of about 2,000. A few were available to FAO Schwartz customers at the end of December last year. I'm pretty sure this is limited to New York seeing as to how that's the only retail FAO that's still up and running.

Chrome Stormtrooper Polybag

  • The Chrome Stormtrooper polybag is an international Toys'R'Us exclusive. For countries that do not have a TRU, there may another means available to acquire the figure; details are unknown at this time.

  • As reported before, Spain TRU stores have started their promotion where if you spend 30 Euro on LEGO Star Wars, you receive the polybagged minifig for free.

  • U.S. TRU stores will begin their promotion on or around October.

As usual, FBTB will try to stay on top of the news on how you can try to get any of the exclusives.

thanks for all this information! I was going to try to get the book and white boba fett on ebay so there's hope for much lower prices and fans to get these once they come out. I feel bad for those that coughed up $600 for these. However, if they were willing to pay that much than chances are they were well off financially anyways to afford it. I would say $100 for the book and boba fett might still be worth it if you can still get them at those prices as c3po at 10,000 was sold between $75-180usd in its lifetime. With fett at 20,000 globally, hopefully we should see prices in the range of chrome vader (ie $25-45) in the aftermarket.

Good to know that it's not a ultra-rare exclusive. Can't wait for more info! XD
I want to get my hands on the book much more than I want the minifig, but I doubt I will be able to since it's such a limited print run. :(

Ditto'd. That said, with a particularly limiting distribution plan (not to mention that 10,000 is still a relatively low number in terms of market size), it seems to me that the aftermarket prices will continue to be quite high for these. Maybe not $600 high, but I can estimate with 98% certainty that you will not be able to land one of these for under $75 unless you actually score one from LEGO.

A couple of points:
1. Why feel sorry for those people? I'm pretty sure that to the people who were willing to buy these figures at the prices they fetch on e-Bay or Bricklink, a sum of $550-$650 is but a pittance. They probably won't miss it due to having good earning jobs. Although you might have to feel sorry for the scalpers who bought these expecting a huge profit on their investment!

2. A total of less than 20,000 globally is still a very small amount of items made. Especially because the way these will be distributed is going to be vague, to say the least, but distribution will evidently be targeted towards the real SW Lego fans who are less likely to part with the minfigs. And remember, the 10,000 gold chrome C-3PO's are still fetching around $120, even though boxes of these were handed out at ComiCon. I'm not expecting these to suddenly get cheaper, in any case, although this news will certainly shake the market up a bit.

3. Most of the people who shelved out $550-$650 also got the 2010 SW product booklet. Now, with a limited print run of 2,000, this product booklet is even more rare than the chrome C-3PO. Although it's not a minifig, it's no less a collectible for lots of SW Lego fans. Five times rare than a $120 gold chrome C-3PO: you do the maths!

Anyhow... I wonder if Lego means the top 100 GLOBAL S@H customers, or if it's the top 100 customers per S@H location (currently 23 countries). The latter case would at least give me some chance of getting one of these figures.

What is a Top100 S@H Customer?
Someone who spends hundredthousands a year for Lego products?
Or someone who orders often?

It does make me chuckle a little bit knowing that there are some people out there that paid as much as $600 for what they thought was going to be an ultra-rare minifig. I'm glad my obsession isn't quite that bad or I probably would have been one of them. Of course I doubt I would have ever got the approval from SWMBO.

If Lego is really trying to get these to the fans, I would think distributing some of them the way they did the 10th anniversary minifig poster might work. With limited notice and limited time to purchase, I would think that the bulk of the posters ended up going to the die-hard fans. A minifig might be more appealing than a poster, but they are both intended for the same group people, all of us!

That would be great if it did. Maybe on May 21 / (30th anniversary of ESB theatrical release)? :)

Out of all of these exclusives from the last few years, I have the poster and the stormie magnet, only due to purchasing a set or buying the chrome stormie magnet outright. I hope that one of these days, I'll be lucky enough to get one of these exclusives from a drawing or other giveaway.

Still, I am glad I didn't pay a crapload of money for one of these Fetts.

Not sure why some people are " chuckling " at people who paid 600.00 for this figure. I paid 300.00 and I am glad I did. There was no guarantee that this figure would be available after the toy fair or even the quantity. So what is wrong with someone jumping at the figure if they really want it? Answer: nothing at all. If this news never did happen,. then those people look good paying that much for that figure. If it were to be that rare. I don't think anyone should second guess themselves for buying it. Just my 2 cents worth. For the record, I am not insulted but find it humorous.

Umm... I am a fan. I bought almost every 2010 set and multiples of a few. I didn't get a Vader and I really want one. I can't justify paying $50 or more for a Vader on the secondary market, let alone several hundred for a white Fett. I would have gladly paid for a Vader (or two) if it were made available for purchase at a reasonable price. I never understood why they didn't make it available to purchase in the US. If this is for fans, I hope they make it a little easier to get a hold of one.

Wow really bigj22?

Q: What's wrong with shelling out 300 smackers for a piece of white plastic that looks like Boba Fett?
A: Because that's ALL it is. You payed $300 (which for me would be like dropping a month's rent where I live) for a single minifig. There's a line between collecting and obsessing, and you sir clearly have no self control. If you had waited just a month you would have learned that it ain't so rare as it seemed, and been able to save yourself a ton of money I'm sure. Is $300 just a drop in the bucket for you? No matter how rare it ended up being I would not say anyone ever looks good blowing so much money on something that, while cool, is just so trivial when it really comes down do it. If this fig is something you felt you NEEEEEDED that strongly then you need to sort out your priorities, I think. I find it hilarious that you're trying to justify this to us. Even with these new opportunities to get a white Boba, I still probably won't ever have one, but I don't care that much. At all. When the price for something like this gets so outrageous, you have to take a step back and realize that it's JUST a tiny piece of plastic. Makes me happy to know I have my head screwed on straight when it comes to collecting this stuff.

So you've never made a poor investment or bought a lottery ticket? Or paid a premium for a new phone or piece of computer hardware when it was first released just to be the first kid on the block to have it? He bought the figure having no idea what the future was going to hold and while I'm sure he's slightly upset at this news he can still justify his purchase and seems happy with it. Now even though I've spent thousands on Legos recently I think it's a little silly to spend MY money on a $300 or $600 Minifig, obviously there are those out there who have no problem spending THEIR money on one.
