I've been running across a lot of real-world places and people lately that old Georgy-poo might have taken some inspiration from. Here are a few...what can you add?

Akbar: Indian ruler during the Mughal Dynasty of the late 16th/early 17th centuries.
Ashoka: Indian emperor during the Maurya Dynasty 304-232BC
Tataouine: a city in Tunisia (aka the country where scenes from Tatooine were filmed).
U-Tapao: Airport/military airbase in Thailand
Vader: Dutch word for father

Dooku: based on the Japanese word "doku," or poison.

Geonosis from "Genesis" of the Clone Wars

"Stormtrooper" from Nazi military police of the same name
"Anakin" from Ken Annakin, George Lucas' friend and fellow director
"Luke" from "Lucas", last name of a certain George
"Leia", possibly from "Lay'a" which in Arabic meaning "weary". Alternatively it might mean "mistress'" or "ruler" in Assyrian
"Coruscant" from the Latin verb "Coruscare", meaning to glitter or sparkle

"Jedi" - From Jidaigeki, the Japanese term for a historical films set during or near the Edo period

Also possibly from the Arabic Takbir "Allāhu Akbar" meaning "god is good/great."

It's not really a person or place, however the scene at the end of A New Hope (when Han and Luke get their medals in front of all the rebels) is probably a reference to the 1934 Nuremberg Rally.

Darkseid is the main villain and "The Source" is a mystical power in Jack Kirby's Fourth World comics from the early 70s. I'm sure George never read them though. It's about the hero Orion's struggle against Darkseid. Turns out Darkseid is Orion's Father! (No! It's not possible!)
