New 7778 Midi-Scale Millennium Falcon info and pics

Postby HothTrooper » Mon Apr 20, 2009 2:25 pm

StarWars.com has an article up today about 7778 Midi-Scale Millennium Falcon including a short interview with design manager Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and a couple of higher resolution pics than we've seen before. Of note, is the fact that the set is a Walmart exclusive scheduled for a July 1 release.

Yeah I was expecting the article to be more forthcoming about that particular detail...

Nice, but why does it have the Clone Wars box art on it? I was expecting more of what we had with Vader's TIE.

The red color scheme with clone troopers is a unified packaging design being used for all Star Wars licensees that's debuting this year. StarWars.com has some more info.

I don't know, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that it was going to be $29.99. Of course I guess with 356 pieces and recent pricing trends, $39.99 sounds more likely.

Anyway, I'm glad to finally see some better pictures and I think that it looks great. I'll probably get it, as long as it doesn't cost more than $40.

I don't know how well this new "midi-scale" thing will bode with buyers, as nifty as this looks. Granted, it captures the look of the Falcon very well. However, people accepted the mini scale because it was affordable but still looked decent- in my opinion, this "midi scale" is too close to minifig scale to truly carve a niche in the market, and of course minifigs are half the fun in a set after all. When I heard some time ago that a "midi-scale Millennium Falcon" would be released, I assumed it'd be a retooling of the minifig-scale Falcon we got in 2004 (since we have a bag charm falcon, a mini Falcon and the UCS falcon in those other categories). I'm not sure how well these might sell, as it seems display (and limited swooshing) might be the only purposes they serve.

This seems like a cool build, and I really like all the "hopefully" printed parts. But, considering all the "other" Lego purchases I'm going to have to be making this year, this is probably a "NO GO" for me.

Ahh, finally a picture! That looks pretty fun to play with :) ! Im guessing it'll be about $30-$35.
I really hope it fits in the Home 1 landing bay, that'll make me wanna buy it even more! ;)
I am definitely getting this set!I really dislike that it's a Walmart exclusive, though.

It's a bit smaller than I expected, but it still looks like a fun build. The key element that I like is the swooshability. Most versions of this ship, even the old Kenner version, were hard to fly. So something a little substantial in detail but still swooshable is welcome.

Personally I think that the Falcon has been milked a bit much over the years. I have both of the mini-fig scale falcons so I doubt that I'll be getting this one, just seems like a waste of shelf space.

Although it looks really cool, I think the price point will be the main factor in whether this set will be a success or not with fans and kids alike.

Am I missing something obvious? What is 'midi-scale'? What does that mean?

It's bigger than mini and smaller than system. A small model with all the detail of a UCS. etc. etc. etc

Why do people have such a problem accepting this, or undertsanding what it is?

Will it be in Wal-Mart Canada too, or is this just going to a US thing? Anyone?
