Last Call for 9489 Endor Battle Pack, 10227 B-wing?

Postby Staff » Wed Jul 17, 2013 12:44 am

Over at LEGO Shop@Home, there are two sets that are on sold out status which typically means they are no longer available and will no longer be made: 9489 Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack and 10227 B-wing Starfighter. The Endor Battle Pack is still available via Amazon and right now might be a good time to pick up a few, especially with 10236 Ewok Village right around the corner. Amazon's price is $11.97 with free shipping if you're a Prime member, or buy three to hit the Free Super Saver Shipping threshold. Limit of 5 per customer.

Amazon also has 10227 B-Wing Starfighter for 22% off of MSRP at $156.53. If this is indeed the curtain call for the B-wing, this might be the shortest shelf life of a UCS set ever clocking in at less than a year.

I saw that all of the Battle Packs are currently $10 at Target. This was in store, as the online price is still $11.99. I don't know if the $10 price is just in the Kansas City area or if it's nationwide, but worth checking out if you're at Target. Also, IIRC, shipping is free over a certain amount if you have Target's Red Card.

As for the UCS set shelf life, I was under the impression that Obi-Wan's JSF was the shortest shelf life record holder. However, I wasn't ever interested in that set so I stopped paying attention before it was retired.

10227 has been out of stock at least once before and then after a few days given a restock date. Who knows, until I see "Retiring Soon" it will be around I'm guessing. 10227 went out of stock pretty quickly with that fire sale called "May the 4th" XD .

I still enjoy looking at my 10227, it was definitely a build and display model. Not something to be played with. While I really would like to see more unique models of obscure Star Wars ships, most will do poorly as a UCS. I feel 10227 would have been more successful as an update to 6208 B-Wing Fighter and reasonably priced.

Has anything related to Endor and those fuzzy annoyances ever really sold well? 8038 Battle of Endor maybe?

It would make sense that 10227 is heading out if only the for fact that Lego replaced that price point with the x-wing and we all know they hate having "competing" items in those higher price points within a them.

I don't see how you could say that. When a new modular building comes out, the two before it stay available for a while, and the oldest one goes out after a few months. If you're talking exclusively about Star Wars sets, then maybe.

Yeah I'm sorry, I meant within the SW line. Historically they just never seem to double up anything (other than the DS and SSD). Just an observation over time, doesn't mean it's the law of the land this time. XD

I'd like to see the B-wing be retired because I got 2 during May the 4th and still have 1 in the box. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good set. I initially hadn't planned on getting it because of a review and lack of space, but if you can get it cheap (like now) it's a decent set with a lot of interesting parts. It is much more of a display model, because some parts are a bit fragile, but some of it is quite solid. They definitely could shrink and modify it to make it swooshable.

I hit the Moline, IL Target last night and all four battle packs were $10 due to temporary price cut.
