General official LUG status question

Hello,

I was just curious if there were official guideline that had to be met before you could call your group a "LUG"? I know I have seen several LUG websites but I can't find anything about creating one and whether it's Lego controlled thing where you have to get permission to call yourself a LUG? I appreciate any help.

Yes and no. Any group of fans can legitimately call themselves a LUG. It just stands for "Lego Users Group" and that can mean a number of things to a number of people. It's not an official title or tagline given out by Lego. However, to be eligible for the programs like LUGBulk or Lego Ambassadors, there are various requirements before Lego will work with you.
