LEGO Announces 10243 Parisian Restaurant

Unveiled at Brickcon in Seattle, WA, Kevin Hinkle's pulling the curtain back on the the newest D2C modular building set, 10243 Parisian Restaurant. In a nutshell, 2,469 pieces for US $159.99. Available starting in January 2014. The modular building series continues its tradition of high quality, desirable buildings (other than Market Street but hey, there's an exception to every rule, right?). I would offer that this set raises the bar in terms of how much detail and life is captured throughout the set. Front to back, top to bottom, its chock full of neat stuff. The kitchen is outstanding! The one pic that has me puzzled, though, is the one with the male minifig proposing to the female: what is the waiter doing with the sword? Is he supposed to be opening a bottle of champagne? Is that how they do things in France? Waiters with a machetes just roaming restaurant floors waiting for the opportunity of opening a bottle of champagne in celebration of a proposal being accepted to present itself? Strange times, man... strange times. In any case, I can't wait to add this to the line up.

It’s very busy in the Parisian Restaurant. As a scooter zips by, inside the waiter rushes between the tables as the nervous young man gets ready to propose with the ring! It’s just as hectic behind the scenes, with the chef busily preparing the food. This beautifully detailed building is the setting for so many stories and is a great addition to the modular building series. The Parisian Restaurant has a fully-stocked, blue and white tiled kitchen with tableware as well as a cozy apartment with pull-down bed, kitchenette and fireplace. On the top floor is the artist’s room with a studio that includes a cast iron heater, easel, paintbrush and two works of art by the aspiring artist. Outside, stairs lead down to the roof terrace lined with hanging lanterns and flowers where the diners eat alfresco-style. This amazing Parisian Restaurant model even includes a facade with croissants, clams and feather details that recapture the feel of Paris. Sabrage. It's kind of a time-honored tradition dating back hundreds of years in a little part of the world no one has really heard of (ie Europe)
I think when they do the New York restaurant they will have the waiter shooting the cap off a beer bottle with a colt .45...

My wife just took the sword and cleaved my credit card in half. Ouch! This is a beautiful set and can't wait.

Is the scooter new? Deadpool's got new wheels! Didn't think the brick-built scooter in the game would look so great next to the LEGO motorcycle, but now it doesn't matter.

Terrific set, and a great comeback after the cinema which I found a little disappointing.

I like that there is another smaller scale, everyday use to give the street variety and life between the big civic buildings.

Making one side so detailed is a nice way to give flexibility in how its displayed: it can act as a corner if needed, and can also be used to create a small "alley." This stuff starts to matter when you have a few and are trying to work the display around the length of bits of shelf!

Like the Pet Store, it manages to play a little with the format and add some variety to avoid the street getting too samey. The external stairs and dining deck, for example, help to break it up.

Love it.

agree with everything you said here. seeing more variety in terms of building design permeating through the different buildings definitely helps keep things fresh. it'll be interesting to see how the next building lines up to this one.

The inside of this is the first decent interior they've made since the grand emporium. Shame I have to wait until January, because I want that scooter now!
If the above post didn't offend you, you're probably reading it wrong.
