Mystery Train Set?

Postby scandell » Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:20 am

Hi guys, I have a random question...I just purchased a lego train set on ebay...with box and instructions. The thing is...I have never heard of it before. It is called :

MY OWN TRAIN 65537 CLASSIC TRAIN LEGO

Does anybody here know the history or the availability of this set? Was it sold at TRU and Target? Just the Lego Store?
ANY INFO you may have would be appreciated. I love lego trains!

This one? 65537 and http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/65537_Classic_Freight_Train
Afraid there's not much information there, though.

Those trains were for sale a number of years ago. I always drooled over them in the catalog but was never in a position to buy any.

The engine for the my own train was available in 8 configurations.

Large and Small, and then 4 different colors for each type (Blue, Green, Black, Brown). The engines were mostly black with the color you could choose being the accent. They came unmotorized but as you can see were set up so you could fairly easy convert.

Your bundle includes a couple of the cars you could buy individually for the series as well. There was also a passenger car and a caboose.

At the time it was considered a big deal if I remember correctly because of the the options available. Made it good for train fans but also people were hoping it was signalling a new era of customizable sets.
