[NEW STUFF] 7952 and 2824 Advent Calendars 2010

So were LEGO to have a Christian themed calendar, I'd be slightly offended (as I am with Playmobil's nativity set).

What bothers me about that comment is not that you wouldn't buy it, but that you would actually be "offended" because some people actually still cling to the religious roots of the holiday and you don't... I mean, I just don't honestly get how it could "offend" someone, even if only "slightly."

Ok, fine, to keep this on topic... got two of each while ordering my 16 minifigs, and they're both fantastic (although my wife is taken aback by naked Santa, I think it's funny). Opened one of each now because I'm an impatient bantha, and will open the other two with the kids at Christmas time to add to our LEGO Christmas Village (with toy shop, trains, some other older advent stuff, and soon to be with bakery).

Edit: except for the Wizards "wand." That's just terrible. I'm happy I just received a package from BrickForge including a variety of colors of both the sorcerer staff and the wizard staff.

I just saw these at my local LEGO store today. Almost bought the city one, but as I'm a poor college student, decided to hold off until I had the money (I also didn't think I'd be able to wait until December to open it!). Was this an unwise decision? Will they sell out before November rolls around?

You can wait a bit, but it is risky to wait until November. Last year I did see some late at Target, but it seemed they may not have put them out when they first received them.

I picked up the Kingdoms one last weekend, but I don't know if I'll pick up the City one. I already have the City Advent Calendar from '08 and '09, and these are somewhat similar - snowman, tree, etc.

I do regret not getting the Castle and Pirates calendars though.

I agree...the City calendars are cool if you've never picked one up, but the price on these things gets closer and closer to unreasonable every year. When you consider that the City figs tend to be pretty common among whatever general City sets happen to be in circulation at the time the calendar is produced, it's not so attractive. Clever little models and a nice idea, but not really worth it at $34.99...at least not for my money.

I'm assuming that was meant to be a little tongue-in-cheek, but if there is indeed any concern at all about this particular scene amongst anyone, it's kind of ridiculous. It's not as if he's anatomically correct Santa in the shower with Mrs. Claus (or Miss Thang...or both). Are we so prudish as a nation that we can be offended by a harmless representation of Santa taking a well deserved (and probably seriously necessary) shower? How would you smell if you traversed the globe in a single night sliding down chimneys and drinking gallons of room temperature milk?
