This looks awesome. Finally a ship worthy to fight my three masted bark rigged black seas barracuda.

I've been sitting on this official announcement at the request of LEGO for two days (just like Bonaparte on EB and every other ambassador). They didn't want this public until it was debuted live at BrickCon and STEAM, so I had to wait until 2am this morning before it was kosher to post. I just posted it when I woke up.

Had it been anything Star Wars related, I would have set an alarm and had a mainpage draft waiting... ;)

In the interests of accuracy, The Brothers Brick posted it 1st (posted at around 1am PDT), and it was then on Brickset about 15 minutes later. EB was *way* behind those two, not that it matters :-)

It appears that tBB jumped the gun by an hour ... problems with daylight savings adjustments ?

It's a fantastic looking set, and I'll definitely be buying at least one ... but I can't help but feel it isn't good value for money compared to the Medieval Market Village (MMV) or Winter Toy Shop - it's a *lot* more expensive per part (yes, but hull pieces, yadda, yadda, yadda, but that doesn't seem enough to account for the huge price difference). Also the UK price is then disproportionately high compared to the US$ price (comparing with other non-franchise 10xxx-series sets), which sucks. It works out more than twice as expensive as the MMV in the UK (£68 for MMV / £140 for IF, compared to $100US for MMV / $180US for IF).

I'll still buy one, so Lego must be doing something right, but, gorram, that's more like Lego Star Wars pricing :-(

Awwwwwesoommmmmmmmme! This has got to be the coolest LEGO sailing ship ever...I honestly never expected anything this cool to be produced...particularly prior to the impending Pirate stasis.

This makes up completely for the lack of very many Imperial ships in the past...

Seriously, though, this looks just awesome. The detailing on it looks superb, I almost thought it was a UCS-type set until I saw the figures...

Very impressive ship. They just keep cranking out these great albeit expensive sets.

About time they built the good guys a big ship, I was tired of making one myself, lol. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing, I have collected all the ships as of yet, and this one is the pinnacle of them thus far. I definitely prefer this to a nice Harbor Set, even though I wouldn't mind that in the next few years.

Yes, it might be alittle more money for the parts, but I won't complain that much when they give us something this great.

It's pretty neat but looks a tad bit overpriced. I would consider it if it was $150 but $180 is just too much. Besides the horrible masts though, it looks really good.

Nearly 1700 peices and 9 minifigures, and you expect it to be 150 dollars? I don't know, 180 sounds perfectly fine to me..

Medieval Market Village - 1601 pieces, 8 figs, 2 cows, a horse, for $99US ...

Having seen & fiddled with the Imperial Flagship today, and being a big fan of the old & new pirates sets, I'd say it's very, very nice ... but I take back my previous comment - there is no way I'm paying £140UK for it.

Agreed, I'm on the fence and will be until it's released, depending on my cash flow at that point. It's a great model to be sure, but especially since this is being touted as the "next Medieval Market", the price-per-part ratio, what's "in" it, and its overall total cost is odd comparatively.

Hm, you do have a point.

Only explanation I can think of would be the typical boat parts (the hull, masts, etc.), which may have upped the price...quite a bit..

Re: [NEW STUFF] 10210 – Imperial Flagship!

Postby Blacknight » Sun Oct 04, 2009 5:23 pm

I always liked the Lego soldier ships the best because I could never bring myself to believe that real life pirates would paint giant skull and crossbones on their sails. Pirates were successful in real life by pretending to be merchant ships and sneaking up on their quarry before attacking them - a giant skull on your sail kinda makes that impossible. When I was a kid I turned my Black Seas Barracuda into an Imperial ship (what with its red flags and all). I always kicked myself for not getting the Skull's Eye Schooner (despite the skull on the sails) but this now trumps that as the most powerful ship in Lego-land.

The price seems okay given that all Lego is pretty much overpriced nowdays. I would've prefered $199 Canadian like the Blockade Runner but honestly this seems bigger and more impressive than that set. I wish you got 8 cannons though, it seems cheap to skimp on them though there is a history of that in the Pirate line. It looks like with some modding you could fit a lot more cannons in there too (one in place of every ammo box). As beautiful as the whole thing is, I think it could use more detailing in many places such as the poop deck (bridge), which looks quite plain and boring, lacking even the compass of the old Imperial Flagship.

But overall this really is an awesome surprise, I take back any moaning about pirates ending prematurely. The only thing that could've topped this would've been a new Imperial trading harbour set.

Let's see, Brickbeard's Bounty with 592 pieces = $100 and the Imperial Flagship with 1664 = $180. That's more than double the pieces, and less than double the price.

Even way back when Black Seas Barracuda came out, it was $100 and had 909 pieces. And that was over 20 years ago. Inflation has change the amount of a dollar, and this is only 200 pieces under double that.

Is it comparable to the Medieval Market? Nope, not in the least, but then again, as it has been said many times, try to figure out the amount of plastic it takes to make the Hulls and then all the little pieces for the Medieval Market. You might be surprised.

Granted I could be wrong, but either which way, if you aren't happy with it, don't buy it. I for one think it is pretty good, first time they have given an Imperial ship in a long time, and it makes it even better that it is a Flagship. About time they got something bigger.

The whole price per parts argument is retarded anyway. It doesn't matter. I go by size and what the set contains. Using everyone's logic, 100 1x1 plates are worth 100 times the price of a boat hull.

The BB has 592 pieces because it contains the boat hulls and all the major pieces. This ship has all of that plus pieces to build it up an extra level. I don't care how many pieces they use to get it there, the point is it's there...and I still think it's overpriced. (I think the BB is also $10+ overpriced though)

But I guess it's all relative. Almost every new set looks overpriced....which means none of them are. And people will buy the sets no matter what the price is so the new equilibrium between supply and demand will go as high as Lego wants it.

Nice ship and all but why January 1st?!? I'd like to buy it for someone as a Christmas present. It's worse than all the LEGO Star Wars sets that came out 26 December last year. At least those could be picked up with gift cards and gift receipt credit. :)
