[NEW STUFF] Pirates: 852751 Pirate Chess Set

Though we don't cover them in detail on FBTB, we all still love our Castle, Pirates, and Space LEGO too.

[NEW STUFF] Pirates: 852751 Pirate Chess Set

Given the recent revelations of cheapy minifigs in "not traditional" sets, it's hard to get even remotely excited about this one, but hey...whatever. Thanks to the folks at Eurobricks/Classic-Pirates for the update.

This kind of looks to me like it was thrown together without a lot of thought. Like Lego was thinking, "We need a new Chess set, and I guess we got this Pirate theme again, let's throw some figs on some plates and call it good." That board looks terrible compared to the last Castle chess set.

The Castle chess set cost what, $200? I don't think it really makes sense to compare them.

a) I didn't see a price listed for this set, so for all I know, they plan on making it 200 bucks. There may be a price listed on the eurobricks article, but I didn't bother to click through.

b) The recent Castle chess set is the only one I'm really familiar with, so I wasn't really expecting a range in the detail / look / price point for various chess sets. I just kind of assumed they were going for the same general target.

c) It wouldn't really matter if the Castle one was 1000 dollars and this one 10, I can still think that it's ugly, can't I?

The Castle chess set was the odd one out of the chess sets, the other ones are pretty much just like this, and they all had a 50 dollar price tag.

As for this, if it turns out to be another set with "cheapy figs", I'm definitely skipping it.

Like Flynn said, it's $50. The set is basically the same as all the past castle chess sets, *except* for the most recent one, which was beautifully built and detailed, and cost $200. Of course you can think the set is ugly all you want. I was just pointing out that it wasn't really fair to hold a set up to the same standard as one that cost four times as much! :)

This set was confirmed on Eurobricks to have the cheaper quality figures.

I can already imagine the horror of playing with that chess set.

Euro: "Ha! I just pwned your king!"
Pirate: "No, that's just my rook..."
