100 years of special fx in 5:00

It's like the old BCS, except the 2.0 makes it fancy. Wondering why you can't post here? Check out the rules and expectations, and it all should be made clear...

I thought this video was really awesome. It's a montage of effects clips from many movies that were, at their time, the state of the art. Fantastically put together, with appearances made by many favorites, including Star Wars, of course. Please enjoy!

Cool video, but it's missing Metropolis and 2001: A Space Oddyssey. Lots of ILM stuff though, and still fun to watch.

Were there really nothing special FX inventions between Mary Poppins and Star Wars? There are nearly 15 years between

In 1973 Westworld was the first major movie to use CGI. That's the one where Yul Brynner plays a robot cowboy.

Also the period between 1993 and 2004 is missing. All in all it's quite a hodgepodge of clips from actual movies and "behind the scenes" features. I guess they just used whatever footage they could get their hands on. E.g. the Star Wars exploding Death Star scene is obviously from the Special Edition re-release and most certainly does not represent 1977 special effects...

That wasn't as thorough as I'd hoped and it was very inconsistent in its presentation, but, it's collegehumor.com so I should have expected less from the start. A decent montage.

It's definitely far from comprehensive (glaring omission of any Trek movies or TV series), but I did like that some behind-the-scenes footage was included along with the finished results. A fun little watch, but if you're really interested in visual effects do check out Cinefex magazine, which is a brilliant read.
