10213 Shuttle Adventure Sold Out

Postby pacific493 » Tue May 03, 2011 7:45 pm

Just noticed that the Shuttle Adventure 10213 set has sold out at S@H. A bit surprising since it just came out last year.

Given the quasi-cross promotional nature of the set (w/ NASA) and the impending release of the full City Spaceport line, I guess I couldn't call this shocking, but it is a bit of a drag if you didn't get one. Looks like Bricklink prices for a sealed one have already exceeded MSRP. It can still be had at Amazon and TRU for $99.99 (both with free shipping as of today, though Amazon is more likely to be tax free/deferred) and they still had some on hand at my local LEGO store a week or so ago.

I'd say the impending end of the shuttle missions probably helped with the popularity of this set. I'm glad I got one while I could. And I have to agree with Draykov, it's a bit of a drag if you didn't get one of these. It needs a full gantry tower though, which would be a lot of bricks for a MOC...

Dang. Close call, I was holding out but this pushed me to grab one off Amazon.

You won't regret it, Solo, this is an AWESOME set!

Couldn't find the topic, but does anyone know if this means the upgrade pack (or whatever they call it) will also be discontinued? When the topic showed up a couple months back, it sounded as though it were hit-or-miss to get LEGO to send you one, so I was waiting for a more concrete announcement. I'd like to pick one up if possible before the opportunity disappears.

I just received a service pack for this. I just emailed customer support, said I had shuttle, and saw online there was as service pack for it, how do I get one. There was never a response email, and about a week later the parts showed up.

The LEGO store I visited yesterday had a few of these in stock.

Any chance the set isn't being fully discontinued, and instead it is just the rest of the old stock selling out? I remember the Technic excavator last year sold out for a few months after it had linear actuator issues until the new, updated batches came in.

I saw a thread on Eurobricks about it being re-released under a new set number with about 26 more pieces. Sounds like they've updated the set to include the correction.

Here it is

New version coming out with the support kit integrated.

Info about it on eurobricks/bricklink. Sorry I don't have time to detail this further.

Bad timing. No money, and needs money for fix car too. :(

Here is the Eurobricks' thread that explains it:

So my guess earlier seems to be correct; we will get an updated version of this set soon.
Even though it is technically inferior compared to the revised model, I wonder if the old version will be extra-collectible now? I'm surprised it is actually going to have a whole new set number and box art. Hmm...

From the PDF instructions, it looks like it strengthens the connection between the Shuttle and the External Tank. I have an early edition of this set and will call for the service pack tomorrow.

edited to add the following:

Just called LEGO and they said there wouldn't be a problem to send out the service pack. The rep who assisted me confirmed that the pack is to keep the set stable for people who are more likely to play with their sets, but that the existing set, when displayed as a static model, will be fine and won't fall apart.

So, those of you with budding little LEGO maniacs might want to call for this service pack. :) My daughter loves airplanes and the space shuttle, and is demanding that I build my set soon.

The recent "Sold Out" status on LEGO Shop At Home also pushed me to get one off Toys R Us.ca at full price (plus PST, which I wouldn't have to pay have I bought it from S@H), as I was waiting for this set to go on sale before getting one. Of course, that was before I read this thread, and figured out that LEGO was just selling out the sets which don't include the service pack.

Now, I'll have to contact LEGO and get a service pack...
