What's the last set you bought?

Postby Diaaabo » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:09 am

I think this is the only Lego forum I frequent that lacks this topic, so here it is.

My purchases over the last weeks were:

7778 Midi-Scale MF
8128 Cad Bane's speeder
8259 Mini bulldozer

Plus some Tusken Raiders minifigs from BL.

I also got the 10195 AT-OT & Republic Dropship ordered for my birthday for a very nice price, coming from BL, which I can't wait to get my hands on. And after all these, I'll only be able to buy more stuff for Christmas.

And why did you buy all these sets?

I see no sense in it in just listing what everyone bought. Wouldn't it be better to also tell, why one bought exactly this or these set(s) now? Then some discussion would be possible as well. But if there is just a list, there is no discussion.

Well, for returning to the topic: I recently bought the Wampa Cave set.
Because it was 20% less by Amazon and I plan to build a big(ger) hoth Diorama soon.

8097 Slave 1. Just got it yesterday, and I've already added an interior.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I'm with Andi on this one. There's no harm in creating a topic like this, I suppose, but it's not likely to generate a whole lot of interesting discussion if it's a simple "I got this" bulletin board. If your interest is in a particular set there are other places to discuss it. Generally news about some random set that someone just bought is not really valuable information particularly if it's not brought up in the context of some broader topic.

No harm, no foul though...that's just my opinion.

the last set we got (didn't buy it, was a gift from my mother in law)...
hoth wampa cave.
i was very excited to have the Wampa visit the ice cream stand
in front of our new constructed Grand Emporium.

...thinking we might have to Mod the cave into an ice cream shop.

Just picked up the midi scale Star Destroyer myself. Why did I buy it? It's an icon! It's the second ship you see in Star Wars, it strikes fear everywhere it goes. It is probably one of the coolest capital ships ever conceived. Now that I am finished gushing, I have to say that I am a little disappointed with it's construction. Next to the midi-scale Millennium Falcon, it seems kind of flimsy. Because of the hinges necessary to make the shape, it's construction is a little loose. Still cool, but possibly could have been better. Another gripe I have is the scale. You cannot call these new models midi scale, if they are not truly to the same scale. I know you cannot really make the midi-scale models to the same scale since the SD would be huge next to the MF, but technically, they are not the same scale. Maybe it's the engineer in me, but scale implies a standard 1:32, 1:6 etc. Midi scale does not seem to follow this type of standard. It's a small thing, I know, but it's not technically accurate.

Like Forrest also got 8097 Slave 1. In addition to adding an interior (also like Forrest) I redid the hatch and cargo area. Removing the push button firing mechanism left lots of space for modifications. Also recently purchased 8096 Emperor Palpatines Shuttle and 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave sets. My next set for sure will be the USC 10212 Imperial Shuttle!

I bought 8093 Plo Koon's Starfighter because it was on sale at Target and I also liked the colors of the ship. It's even better when assembled. The bad thing is that it took me all of 20 minutes to put it together. I have it displayed with the previous versions (Anakin and Ahsoka).

Plo Koon's starfighter because it is the only one from the new sets that I can afford!

I bought 6753 Highway Transport (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=6753-1) because it was on sale - almost half off - and has lots of parts for MOCing. I liked the build as well!

I just bought the MIDI ImpStar today because I apparently have no self control. I was out to get some drinks, but had to check the LEGO sets first, and, well... I really enjoy it though. Bought Palpy's shuttle on payday, and payday before that was Slave I and Plo Koon's starfighter. I love being a kid.

Better to stop at the toy aisle before the drinks than after. That's my general experience as a fellow collector with no self control. :)

I understand your point, as this kind of topic might be a bit empty of useful information. It's just a way of sharing your latest haul, and sometimes see how someone got that 1989 Space set you always wanted or that Castle set you had as a kid.

Back on topic:

7778 Midi-Scale MF - I saw one on my hands some time ago and I liked it more than I ever thought, since non-minifig scale sets usually don't appeal to me. Walking by a toy store I grabbed it and wished my wallet wouldn't kill me in my sleep.

8128 Cad Bane's speeder - Almost two months without buying Lego, and really curious for Cad Bane, so I brought it with me as the CTT was way out of my r€ach. I was actually disappointed at the minifig, but I will elaborate on that later when I write a review for the set.

8259 Mini bulldozer - Saw it with 25% discount at the supermarket and decided to get it, since I am planning a MOC that will include some Technic, which is not really my area.

The Tusken minifigs from BL were an influence of this topic viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4362 which made me realize I hadn't got one of those.

Bought Plo Koon's starfighter last month at TRU. I was so excited to see the new sets and just had to buy one to buy one (buying LEGO is always therapuetic for a bad day) So I picked the cheapest new set.

Also, I just bought the 6207 A-Wing. My rebel fleet just seemed incomplete without it. I was just getting into LEGO in 2007, so I didn't pick up all of the 2006 sets.

On a somewhat related note, my mom found the Venator for $80 at the Wal, so I will be getting that for my birthday or Christmas.

I'll agree with Draykov and Andi: no harm no foul, but it's more interesting to say why.

So I bought a Green Army Men battle pack, one of the Hoth battle packs, and a bunch of Collectible Minifigs off Bricklink. What can I say? I'm on a minifig binge.

But Diaabb's original post made me realize something: I just bought a bunch of Hoth stuff, but I like the Tatooine setting more. (Tatooine actually has...you know...inhabitants. Hoth has...tauntauns and abominable snowmen. Well, I guess they have their virtues.) And yet I barely have any Tusken Raiders, and those Jawas were always so expensive.

I bought 2 Green Dragon Knights battlepacks and 2 Royal Guard Star Wars magnet packs.

All because I couldn't find the Collectible Minifigs I wanted!

I just picked up the Clone Turbo tank at TRU. Why? Well, I did not have one, I missed out on the first one. Plus, it has some good figures, namely Cad Bane and Aayla Secura. I was pretty happy with the set, it has some excellent pieces that I think will come in handy for some custom builds down the road. Neat features too. I like the way the walker is stored inside the hinged panel. A little expensive, but no regrets. I did have to make a bargain with my wife though. Can't even think about another Lego set until October. Oh well, I am sure the rest of the new Star Wars sets will still be available then.

Glad to hear it. I'm looking forward to this set most out of this year's summer releases

Hoth Rebel Troopers battle pack. First LEGO set of any kind I've bought since the UCS Falcon (which I probably never should have bought as I don't even have room for my MOC Falcon anymore, let alone another one)! :(

I bought the battle pack mostly for the free chrome stormtrooper at TRU (and because I had a $5 off coupon). :)
