Pre-planning a MOC

Postby thesilverspyder » Tue Feb 17, 2009 1:22 pm

This is probably a simple question, with a simple answer. I plan to build a large scale "garage" for my UCS Millenium Falcon. I call it a "garage" because I haven't seen anyone else build what I'm planning. I'm sure someone out there has the parts, resources, and time to build it before I do.

Anyway, is there software out there where I can engineer a large (keep in mind LARGE) model and have it tell me how many parts I need to order? I know there's a LEGO builder program out there with a limited amount of pieces and it assumes you're building on a small scale. I need BIG, BIG scale.

You may want to check out Pepa Quin's Echo Base Hangar, it sounds similar to what you're after. The top software for designing in brick is LDRAW I believe. You can design everything in one huge file or create sub-assemblies and then arrange your large setup that way.

Thanks! I see many hours blown because of this program. You know what would be a huge help? If someone had for some reason built the UCS Falcon inside this program already, so I can just add my scene to it and have it all to scale. Anyone know if that's been done before?

That would pretty pretty epic... I think a more realistic option would be to build the rough shape at the right size in the program on your own. But hey, there are some pretty prolific CAD builders. You may get lucky.

No Falcon, but in this Brickshelf folder by Koyan, you can find MPD files of several other UCS ships. The Blockade Runner or Star Destroyer might give you a start for the scale, even they are both too narrow.

I'm 50 pages into building the UCS Millenium Falcon in LDRAW now. Please someone stop me if this has been done before! Would anyone be interested in a screenshot of my progress so far?

I'm 217 pages in. I'm about to do the cockpit section! I'm kinda stuck bending the horse hitching that goes in the rear. The piece itself has to be bent in 3 places on each piece.
