MM2014SWR Now Entering Bracket Phase

The votes are in and we have our top sixteen steamfighters! Every one of ships below received twenty votes or more, which turned out to be the cut off point for anyone progressing in the tournament. The builder's names were shuffled and sorted into the brackets above, and the next building window has now opened. Their new task is speeders: air speeders, land speeders, speederbikes... you get the idea. The next deadline is 11:59PM PST on Thursday August 7th, giving them a week to build and submit their new models. We'll have a thread for each pairing in our contest forum.

Great work everyone, and I can't wait to see the next round's submission!

Re: MOC Madness 2014: Steam Wars Returns Now Entering Bracke

Postby LN.01354 » Fri Aug 01, 2014 12:12 am

Oh well...it was my first MOC ever, so I never had high hopes. I do wish that I could get some feedback/advice though. However, I have learned some great tips for future MOCs, and can't wait for the next contest on this site!! :) Good luck to all who made it!

(Seriously though: two votes? I didn't think it was that bad... was it the picture quality, or a real problem?) :S

Congratulations everybody on sweet sixteen!! Nice ships!! may be one of them with modified stickers (or unnofficial at least I think) doesn't deserve to be qualified but anyway, it's nice. XD
Standard Contest Restrictions:

No more than one entry per person.

No modified parts or cut stickers.

No unofficial elements.

No pre-existing or virtual models.

No changes allowed after the deadline.

I'm proud with my first steampunk MOC. I am building my speeder (because I thought I wouldn't have enough time if I passed first round). When finished I will post it on MOC thread. I enjoyed being a "master padawan builder"

Stickers count as other Lego elements. You're allowed to use them where you like, just like you don't have to follow instructions on how to put bricks together. You just can't cut them or make your own. I don't see any violations, but which one are you thinking is out of code?

The first time i saw the Y-wing from pasukaru76, I didn't recognize stickers in left side. I tried to look up in star wars sets but I wasn't able to find them.
But don't care about it, as I said, ship is really nice. Do not make any changes!

Thank you for this contest. I want moooore!!!

Thanks again for the contest! Best of luck to the builders who advanced to the next round.

The stickers he used are from ExoForce. The likely set being 7709 "Sentai Fortress" (2006)

Not one x-wing in the bunch :( Who'd have thought? Oh well, good luck to the continuing combatants.

Exactly right!

Wow, I made it past the first round, but the remaining competition does look pretty intimidating.

Quick question: does our speeder have to be minifig scale or can we go larger?

Rounds one through four are all supposed to be minifig scale. You can reuse your pilot from the first round or make a new one for each. The final round has no scale restrictions.

However, like I said in the original thread it's fine to fudge the scale a bit to shrink down larger vehicles or make smaller ones a bit bigger to accommodate steam engines and whatnot. It's less important to be accurately sized to the source vehicle, and paramount to look awesome.

Would a pod racer build count as a speeder?

Congrats to everyone! I plan on continuing my builds along with the contest and posting them to the MOC page. I already have my speeder! I just need to photograph it. I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with.

WOOOOOO!!! Movin' on!

Pretty worried since there were some slick builds out there! Congrats to everyone so far!

Now... what's a speeder again? ;)

Airspeeders, Landspeeders, and speederbikes. When in doubt consult Wookieepedia and PM me to make sure the one you want to build qualifies.

Also, to clarify this because scale already came into question: keep it cannon people. This is the same general idea as the first round, but you're building a different kind of vehicle. That applies to all rounds but the final one.

A special thanks to all 13 people who voted for my v19 MOC! It's cool to think that there were people from around the world who thought mine was in the top ten! Good luck to the sweet sixteen, I wonder if there will be any coruscant speeders like I was going to do...
