Here we have one of the Royal 1st Squad Twin Bombers.

ImageSteampunk Tie Bomber by peterbradberry, on Flickr

They were painfully slow due to their cast iron construction. The wooden Array Wings were an easy target for Rebel forces. Cast iron doubled as shielding to protect the pilot and bombardier, but did very little to keep the craft in flight once fired upon.

ImageSteampunk Tie Bomber by peterbradberry, on Flickr

The pilot had access to blasters on the front of his pod as well as on the Array Wings.

The bombardier pod housed the boiler as well as munitions for bombing runs. It was not unheard of for explosive charges to be lit early and not expelled from the craft in time. Not a good thing.

Thanks for putting this on. Good luck to everyone!

TIE-Interceptor
"The minimalist, light-weight design of the TIE-Interceptor allowed the fighter to travel much farther distances away from the Imperial Steam Destroyers from which they were deployed. Their 4 mounted sail-wing cannons also packed a formidable punch, along with the two chin-mounted harpoon guns."

(Built primarily with HERO Factory, Technic, and Bionical parts)

Lúc Carrigan & His Steam-Powered X-Plane

Image

The Xyloplane, named for its unusual wood construction in the back engines and propellors, was of Welsh design, and was built to be a craft for the burgeoning Imperial Army. However, its makers soon grew tired of the Empire's many trespasses against their nation, and thus joined with the Rebellion, bringing the Xyloplane with it.

Image

The ship is equipped with a powerful boiler that operates its four engines, as well as two high-pressurized torpedoes- the weapon that was said to have brought about the end of the Queen's flagship Dirigible, H.M.S. Death Star. The ship is often nicknamed the "X-plane", for the distinctive shape its wings form during flight.

Image

Lúc “Starkiller” Carrigan was an Irish farmer who found his life changed forever when the unexpected arrival of a pair of Automatons led him to Princess Áine and the struggle of the United Rebellion. Lúc’s training under the reclusive alchemist Benjamin Knightley and his studies in the mercurial forces led to his aforementioned destruction of the H.M.S Death Star, earning him the nickname “Starkiller”.

His clockwork automaton, C2-A2, has been said to have been around before the times of the Imperial Wars, and proves to be a valuable asset to the United Rebellion's ongoing battle against the British Empire.

Partially inspired by this sketch, rest of pictures here.

This was quite a fun build. Best of luck to y'all.

I know the rules say no photoshopped backgrounds, but what about brick-built backgrounds? Is if kosher if we build it, or does it still go against the whole "it's about the starfighter" thing? Not trying to be difficult, I'm actually considering doing it.

Still a no-go, for the whole thing you just mentioned. It's about the model you're making, not the setting. For your submission pictures, it should only be the model by itself. If you really want to add the backdrop, feel free and add it to your gallery that you can link to. But for the pictures of your ship, it needs to only be your ship.
If the above post didn't offend you, you're probably reading it wrong.

This really does seem like the kind of thread that I should have discovered 19 days ago instead of today. Hmm... where are my bricks...

Main power source is a Tri-Blade Turbine with four directional turbine props on each wing. With the quad canon system this ship is a force to be reconded with.

Check out the rest of the pics on my Flikr feed. May the force be with you!!!!!

(Special thanks to Don Solo for helping me with account reactivation sorry for the trouble) :D :D :D

Wow, it looks like I'm late to the TIE party... But no matter. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the Tesla Inductive Engine (TIE) series Interceptor.
ImageTIE Interceptor Steampunk: Front angle by BrickFury, on Flickr
From the manufacturer, Sienar Aviation Enterprises:
"The Tesla Induction Engine (TIE) series grants its pilot a marked advantage over the common steam-powered flying craft of our day, and the Interceptor is no exception. The finest engineers at Sienar have combined advancements from a variety of fields into this single aeroplane. The engine is of the most modern construction, being the next stage in development of the famed Tesla coil. The propellors are a proprietary design, derived from modern submersibles and guaranteed for maximum speed and efficiency. The pilot is well-protected by a steel-lined hull. The aero-wings, which give the Interceptor unsurpassed agility, are defended by a steel rib system, which dissipates energy from hostile electric weapons. The Interceptor is armed with a total of ten advanced cannons, which are powered by the engine's electrical charge. In short, if you require the fastest, most maneuverable, most heavily armed aeroplane available today, the Tesla Induction Engine Interceptor is the clear choice."
(This does not imply that Mr. Nicola Tesla is in the employ of the Empire, as it is common knowledge that intellectual property laws have not been well enforced since the early days of the Empire.)
