FBTB Goes Mobile

Postby Staff » Sun Oct 11, 2009 4:56 am

I'm trying the Mippin plugin for a mobile FBTB. Just load up the site on any mobile device and let me know what you think.

well... I don't know...
Is there a way to load the old fbtb site on mobile as well? Or does it now always jump to this mippin one?

It could be a little prettier if possible:

yes, it is quite bare bones. the huge attractiong to the plugin however was the serious ease in which it was implemented. I did nothing other than activate the plugin.

still, having a little color and the logo in there might be worth the work. this will be good enough for now.

From an individual story there are "Show original version" links that give the option of "Full version" and "Google mobile version".

However, the "Full version" just takes me back to the Mippin FBTB.net home page. The "Google mobile version" works as advertised, but its not the "original version"...

Frankly FBTB already looked fine on my iPhone without any "special" mobile version. I remember using it at Walt Disney World to check out the Toy Fair 2009 pictures...

If there is no way to access the "original version", I'd rather not have any "help" for mobile viewing. :)

On the blackberry it is great as it loads quickly and correctly (something I don't find a lot on the blackberry).

So, I like it.

I don't need no fancy pants graphics.

Blaugh. I can understand how it might be useful for cell-phone users, but when I use my iPod, the old version worked fine, and the stripped-down version seems unnecessary. And I can't get the normal page back!

Yeah, to repeat myself, the "Full version" links seem to be broken on the stories, since it just redirects back to the mobile home page. It seems like the plugin might not be configured correctly, because maybe it needs to go to the story with something append to the URL to prevent the mobile version from coming up.

There is no configuration with this plugin. Everything is automated. I'll start looking into different options.

"Full Version" via "See original story" works on their simulator at http://mippin.com/web/index.jsp. I also tried it with brothers-brick.com and "Full version" even works on the iPhone.

Here is the sequence on the simulator:
http://fbtb.net
http://mippin.com/mip/prev/list.jsp?&id=81519
http://mippin.com/mip/prev/story.jsp?&i ... d=79840665
http://mippin.com/mip/m/offsite.jsp?&ty ... Q0LaSqBJA/
http://www.fbtb.net/2009/10/09/review-7 ... 9-torrent/

But on the iPhone:
http://fbtb.net
http://mippin.com/mip/prev/list.jsp?&id=81519
http://mippin.com/mip/prev/story.jsp?&i ... d=79840665
http://mippin.com/mip/m/offsite.jsp?&ty ... LaSqBJA%2F
http://mippin.com/mip/prev/list.jsp?&id=81519

It actually redirects through many URLs before it gives up and goes back to the start...

But it does seem to be a plugin problem, not necessarily a mippin problem. brothers-brick even has photos showing up on their mippin page, so the vanilla display again seems to be a plugin problem, not mippin.

again, it's not a configuration problem as the mippin plugin is configuration-less.

the user gets redirected back to the lo bandwidth version of the site becasue the plugin doesn't know the reader selected "read full version". now it could be a collision between that and the super cache plugin. /shrug

i'll work on something else. in the meantime, this will be good enough.
