Life-sized LEGO Destroyer Droid

Postby Staff » Sat May 23, 2009 9:57 pm

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

There was an event at LEGOLAND, CA called the Star Wars Galactic Challenge Building Contest. The winners of the challenge (one in each age group) were able to pick a droid of their choosing to be rendered in LEGO form as part of the eye-popping prize package. One of the winners picked a Destroyer Droid, of which FBTB was able to get exclusive pictures of. You can read all about it and see the pictures of the model on it's featured page:

This is a pretty amazing prize to win! Very nice and detailed ... I wonder how stable it is for movement?!

That's just amazing. I'd be willing to bet it's glued together though.

that's really awesome! What a fantastic prize to win. I so hope they still have it and not sold it by ebay for a quick buck.

For what its worth, it just so happens that both David and Peter picked droids. but prize was for ANY life-size Star Wars character. For awhile there we didn't notice the loop-hole and was afraid that someone would choose Jabba. Personally I've always wanted to do a highly detailed Fett or maybe Luke in his pilot gear... something with a lot of color to it.

I have no contact info for Peter and no idea what he finally did with the model. It was quite sturdy and would have made a great coat rack.

what a waste of an opportunity. destroyer droid is cool and all... but, and i'm pretty sure i speak for the majority of adult collectors when i say this, a lego slave leia would have been the one to get.

Well, they were kids way back then. ;)

Besides, at least they didn't pick Jar-Jar...

Never mind what you think of the character, Jar jar would have been really cool to model. Interesting form, very expressive and cool coloring to boot. Maybe I'll do a bust...

Bonus points if you manage to include Realistic Head-Exploding Action. ;)
