[Pirates] modding 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty

I like the new Pirates Ship very much, but while building I thought that some small mods and extras would make it even greater.
These I would like to show you.
If you have more suggestions or if you do like or do not like something of my mods, please let me know.
If you click on the pictures, you can see them in bigger size.

Some essentially features every ship should have: an anchor and a compass

I replaced the new style flag and map with the old style ones. Do you know why the new Pirate Sets have the map from Indiana Jones included? I thought Pirate's treasures are most times hidden somewhere near the sea and not in the mountains.

Then I replaced some of the building technic with what I think better looking one.
For example here, I used common slopes.

And the railing looks better with cones and plates instead these technic parts. Besides I decided that the space for 4 cannons in the middle of the ship should be enough and my pirates don't need another one at the back of the ship.

Between the two rigs I added a rope. Where else could the monkey hang comfortably and eating its banana?
And besides it looked so empty between the two rigs.

And a Pirate should have a Crow's Nest which is bigger than 1 to 2 studs.

The end result.

Looks great Andi. Small additions like the map and the flag are a nice throw back to the ooriginal form of the Pirates. Looking at one of my sets now it seems a bit odd without the white outline around the flag.
I really like that you used some more conventional slopes to the more specialised half arch piece, in my opinion it actually makes it look more like a LEGo model.
I think the addition of the monkey's rope in the rigging is more fun than anything else, it's a nice touch to throw in there. The crow's nest looks better bigger as well.

And overall it still looks like the ship it's supposed to be. You made some nice mods to this Andi, now just make Don a bit more happy and put R2 at the helm... ;)

Those are some thoughtful and well executed mods. Is there any way to move the anchor farther up the bow?

It's funny how much you learn about the design (or cost cutting) when you start to make changes or additions.

Don't hit me for this next question, but did you cut the ship out of the original picture and put it on a white background? Is that how every makes such nice pictures I see on the blogs? I've only just started learning photoshop. :x

I photographed the ship in front of a white wall and then removed the background of the picture with a removal tool. This tool is a feature included in Paint Shop Pro 9, but I'm sure Photoshop as similar tools

On GIMP I use a 'scissors' tool with intelligent edge fitting to cut, copy + paste.
We're gonna need a lot of Mescaline for this...
