Stephen Amell Gets To Lighten Up Green Arrow In LEGO Batman 3

If you’re a fan of CW’s Arrow, you know it’s a much more adult offering then Smallville was. This weeks premiere of The Flash, brought some of the fun back to the DC comics adaptions and so I watched it with my son last night and he’s excited for next week. Because of the darker tone and more violent content, Oliver Queen’s cameo in the Flash was the first time my son saw him and though he was exited, it’ll be some time until he sees any more of him. Apparently the actor who portrays televisions emerald archer has the same problem and having a young daughter is part of what prompted him to voice Green Arrow in LEGO Batman 3.

He’ll be at the panel for the game this weekend at NYCC along with TT Games developers Arthur Parsons & Stephen Sharples, Troy Baker, Geoff Johns and Kevin Smith. Those last two guys will be playable characters in the game as you can see below. Hopefully we’ll find out this weekend if any other surprises are in store, if not we get to find out in a month.

More Promo Polybags: Electro from ASM2 and Ravager Rocket Raccoon with Baby Groot

electroasm2polybag

So there’s a couple of new promotional polybags that I was recently made aware of.

First up is Electro from Amazing Spider-Man 2. As far as I know this was a promotional item given away at LEGO’s truck tour events known as Kids Fest. This is the only set ever made for the movie and as far as I’ve been able to gather, has never been made available anywhere else. There are a few on eBay with the prices going through the roof already so be prepared to mortgage your children to get one.

Next up is Rocket Raccoon in his Ravagers uniform holding a gun in one hand and a Groot sapling in another. First of all, yes, I did report previously that the Rocket Raccoon figure was exclusive to the San Diego Comic Con but that’s only because that was what was communicated to me by LEGO’s public relations representative. I’ve compared the picture on the bag with the one in my hand and they are identical. Second of all, I don’t care. Normally I’d be all up in arms about this saying LEGO’s pants are on fire but not so much. Could be that I’m just getting old. Could be that I have way too much on my plate to worry about insignificant details like this. Could be that I’m jaded. /shrug. Or it could be that I just want this set with the Groot sapling. And see, this is a proper way to do exclusives. For those that want the mini Warbird set with Rocket can go nuts trying to get the SDCC set. Or if you just want the figure, you can try to get this polybag which offers something a little different and arguably something just as desirable and yet is still an exclusive but at a much broader scale. It is just AWESOME. So far, all signs point to it showing up in Canada Toys’R’Us stores in the near future if it hasn’t already. No word yet on US or overseas availability.

Guardians of the Galaxy Gets The Steelbook Treatment

In some DVD/Blu-ray news today, SuperHeroHype is reporting details for the Guardians of the Galaxy Steelbook case, pictured above. Mimicking the appearance of an ’80’s walkman, the front cover displays the “Awesome Mix Vol. 1″ cassette and has the play/stop/forward/reverse buttons printed on the spine. This edition is exclusive to Zavvi in the UK. As usual, here in the US the Steelbook is a Best Buy exclusive and may come with a different version of the case.

According to SuperHeroHype, the DVD/Blu-ray is scheduled to be released on December 9, 2014 here in the US. If the Steelbook’s not your thing, you can pre-order the Guardians of the Galaxy (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy) directly from Amazon. For you music lovers, you can also pick up the Awesome Mix Vol.1 on CD for a mere $10 and includes a digital version of the album. There is no cassette version unfortunately.

Next Years’ DC Sets are Bananas. Also, Invisible.

76026 Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas

The new picture sets just keep on coming, with finished pics of the DC sets showing up, this time thanks to Toyark and a whole bunch of other places. These had been leaked around various places earlier, but had placeholder characters instead of Gorilla Grodd or Darkseid. I find the Gorilla Grodd goes bananas a particularly striking juxtaposition of amazing minifigure selection, especially the N52 Wonder Woman that I’m so glad wasn’t placeholder art and what looks to be one absolutely terrible set build. I mean seriously, it’s 2014 and the best we can come up with for a net launcher is still “cram that net into an engine?”

76026 Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas Set

The only part of that set I really dig is the little truck cart. We’ve already had pictures of the Sinestro set, so not putting that here, but 76027 Black Manta Deep Sea Strike and 76028 Darkseid Invasion. Given that Black Manta is one of the signature villains of the Aquaman universe, who is a character that’s fun to make fun of but is actually a pretty awesome character (who has a trident that can totally kill Superman)… it makes sense that the centerpiece of the set is about Batman and Robin. I do like scuba Robin though.

The Darkseid breaks the golden rule of DC Super Heroes set, in that “must have Batman.” It still has Superman, as has the other sets that didn’t include Batman, but still, it’s there. The inclusion of Hawkman is good, but I would have loved Hawkman and Hawkgirl in the same set. They are a pair, and should always be together. Green Arrow is cool, as is Cyborg, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that this leaves the DC lineup next year with exactly 1 woman 2 women and 1 person of color. They could, and they should, do better. (Thanks to banthafodder for reminding me that Supergirl is also slated to come in the Braniac set)

76023 The Tumbler Time Lapse Build Video

I shot the time lapse video of me building 76023 The Tumbler way back when I built the set for our review but I just now finally got around to posting it. I don’t have exact numbers, but I think the set took me about 6 or 7 hours to build with some breaks in between while I wrangled with my kids and other house duties. Anyway, take a gander if you’d like.

30301 Batwing Polybag Now Available at Target

30301 Batwing

Was strolling through the seasonal section, which is set for Halloween, at Target and ran across a bunch of these Batwing polybag sets. As far as minis go, this one ain’t too bad. The yellow 2×2 plate with Technic pinhole and the light grey cone making up the jet engine is a bit of an eyesore but those could easily be swapped out for black for a more Batman-esque look. It’s a great little poly bag and worth the $3.99 price tag. Leagues better than that awful 30300 Tumbler. And there you have our 10 second review.

On a related note, Target is also the place where you could pre-order LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and receive this very same polybag as your bonus. And here they are just selling the darn things. Not that it really matters; I imagine most AFOLS would have pre-ordered from Gamestop to get Plastic Man.

Thanks to ninnymuggins for the heads up.
