Guardians of the Galaxy: first Official Trailer

Okay, let’s go down the list. Rocket Raccoon? Check. Zoe Saldana in head-to-toe green paint? Check. Absolutely nailing Peter Quill as Star Lord? Check. It’s been an en vogue thing on the nerd-verse blogs to call out Guardians of the Galaxy as the first potential “bomb” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given that it’s a relatively obscure title in the overall mix and set well outside what the other ones have covered. I respond to that with four simple words: Hooked on a Feeling.

Between this trailer and the new set teases, I am absolutely ready for this movie, and all the glory that is Rocket.

Xenomurphy’s Battle Above The Bugle

Spider-Man vs. Vulture - Main

I sat on this one for a couple of days to let Ace’s Toy Fair coverage soak up some much deserved attention, but I can’t stands no more! Xenomurphy is at it again with this gigantic Spider-man themed vig of a battle on the rooftop of the Daily Bugle. The attention to detail and scale is exactly what I’ve come to expect from this builder and as much as I love the custom figs he’s created, the real crown jewel here is his excellent font work.

Spider-Man vs. Vulture - Scarlet Spider FightScarlet Spider 01

He may not have made the custom Scarlet Spider fig himself, but his addition of the painted Wyldstyle hoodie is what sets it apart. The fact that Ben Reilly’s outcast outfit is a favourite of mine goes a long way to me ignoring the custom aspect. Xenomurphy has quickly become one of the builders I anxiously await the next build from.

Green Lantern’s Light!

12611988784_5076d95dbf_o

Fellow chat troll murphquake found this picture of a new Green Lantern keychain light on Entertainment Earth. Could this be a sign of a new fig on the horizon? A set we haven’t yet seen or an upcoming exclusive poly to accompany the remainder of The LEGO Movie releases in June? Who knows, but first Martian Manhunter and now this glimmer of hope for a new GL.
In brightest day, indeed.

Toy Fair Report: 76022 X-Men 1

QO5C4075

$49.99
336 pieces
Available in June

We purposefully forewent covering any sets that were scheduled for March, this includes Super Heroes, and Star Wars, simply because they should already be hitting store shelves right now. This was the only Super Heroes set revealed at the show that wasn’t slated for March, 76022 X-Men 1, which is probably a working title. Not even a new Batman set was shown. Some observations: The Sentinel makes great use of the new micro ball joints found prominently in the Mixels line. Storm’s cape was made of a fabric material that was different than the normal material used for previously seen capes. Also, her cape actually attaches at her wrists. This is a great minifigure of Ororo Munroe of her original costume. Now that being said since it is not mohawk Storm, I am still disappointed. Cyclops looks good, but feels a little lazy. A custom headpiece with an actual visor would have been nice. Wolverine looks fantastic with a new headprint that is doublesided. One side looks like he is wearing shades or a visor, which may look a little funny, but makes total sense once you put his mask on. THIS IS WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE WITH BATMAN. The jet is a good size and can fit all of the minifigs. It has a nice heft with a high swoosh factor. Anyways, on to the pictures:

Marvel.com unveils first Guardians of the Galaxy set

Lego’s press pre-show event for Toy Fair is still a few hours away, and Ace will be out covering everything he can. Meanwhile Marvel.com has given us the first of three reported GOTG sets for the upcoming film:

With Toy Fair coming up this weekend, we’ve got your first look at one of three upcoming LEGO sets from Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the Milano Spaceship Rescue set!

Get a look at the set, debuting in stores this June, directly below with your first glimps of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax and Ronan in LEGO form! In addition, the set will also include a Sakaaran Soldier, and will consist of 665 pieces priced at $74.99.

1392401057503I kind of expected this one after seeing the toys Hasbro is planning for the movie, and my money says Rocket’s starfighter will be one of the two remaining models Lego is making. The third is still anyone’s guess.

Paul Bettany To Upgrade Into The Vision For Age Of Ultron

He's a Vision

Grain of salt time, but The Daily Mail and Variety have stated Paul Bettany will expand his roll in the MCU from simply voicing Tony Stark’s conveniently sentient AI J.A.R.V.I.S into the full bodied android son of Ultron, The Vision. If true, I think it’s great casting and really makes use of Marvel’s “long game” way of creating the MCU, whether that was the initial intention or not. Rumour has it he was spotted at Shepperton Studios for a costume test, so we may have official word soon.

Hank Pym may not be appearing until after Avengers Age Of Ultron, but the movie should be mostly in the can by then so it’s not too far fetched to think there may be some mention of Tony using Pym’s work as the basis for his AI. Which would be more then enough for the comic book geek in me to be satiated.

Winter Is Coming In The New Captain America Trailer

Marvel has a lot hanging on their box office this year. With RDJ getting too expensive to sustain further solo Iron Man films (phew), they need to be able to create new possible mini franchises like Guardians Of The Galaxy and prove that the other Avengers can maintain profitable film series as well and not end up as one offs if at all possible. Thor: The Dark World proved to be a successful follow up with critics liking it less, while still for the most part liking it, while the general audience liked it more. It slipped into last place for the top ten grossing films of 2013 bookended by IM3 in the top spot.

It’s all on Cap now. The studio is optimistic having already signed The Winter Soldier’s directors on for the third film and hiring screenwriters for a third Thor outing. Some others in the know have had high praise of what they’ve seen of the film as well. Ed Brubaker, creator of the Winter Soldier and one of the best writers to ever work on Captain America, has had nothing but praise for it saying he was “blown away” by the script a few months back.

I’m hopeful audiences will continue to embrace the MCU’s take on these characters (Falcon aaaaaand Batroc?! Boom!) and are ready for a bit of cloak & dagger mixed in with their big screen comic book heroes. I for one can not wait.

Exclusive Martian Manhunter Available In March

Tohst posted this tidbit in chat a couple of days ago via neoape. Spend $75 in March and you’ll be one step closer to a full Justice League roster.

The New 52 fan out there will really love this guy no doubt, but I wish they’d gone more traditional. In the back of my mind, I think that if I get this one LEGO will release a more classic one in a set to match Supes and Wonder Woman, but then I think of Green Lantern and cry. For the Lucky few that have the New 52 Green Arrow from SDCC last year, this will be a nice compliment and you could throw in the Beware the Batman fig from The Riddler Chase and a Man Of Steel fig to be on your way with the newer style suits.

It’s Official… Vin Diesel: “I AM GROOT!”

dieselgroot3

In probably the worst-kept secret in Marvel-movie history, it’s finally been confirmed that Vin Diesel will have three words worth of dialog in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Okay, to be fair, I think Groot has said perhaps seven words (“Groot feel hurt” was said in one of the Cancerverse stories), but still, we’re going to get a whole lot of variations of Riddick saying “I Am Groot!” Let the parodies begin!

Honestly, not sure how I feel about this. I think he’ll make a fine voice for Groot, but think there were so many roles that could have used Diesel better. He’s a huge nerd, and has a certain presence that would lend itself to the comic movie mediums.
